willsboattail
I have just aquired a 1993 Cutlass Supreme Convertible with 78,000 miles. :question:Vehicle's automatic trans lurches (klunks) when putting it in gear and shifting through the gears to highway speeds. Fliud level appears OK. Am I looking at tranny failure someday, or perhaps a broken motor mount? :willynilly:Kevin on ND
xtremerevolution
Start with the motor mounts. Transmissions don't go out that fast.
xtremerevolution
also chech the vacuum line coming out of the torque converter housing.
RobertISaar
also chech the vacuum line coming out of the torque converter housing. speaking of vacuum lines, check the line going to the vacuum modulator and the modulator itself... Regal_GS_1989
also chech the vacuum line coming out of the torque converter housing. x2. Locate the vacuum modulator (Under the air cleaner) and remove the vacuum line then take it out for another drive. If nothing changes, than there is either a modulator issue, or a vacuum issue. Also, what area of ND are you from?
LuminaPower92
also chech the vacuum line coming out of the torque converter housing. speaking of vacuum lines, check the line going to the vacuum modulator and the modulator itself... Yes I had this causing the same problem. Drove me nuts.

willsboattail
UPDATE!! Now that a couple of nice days of SPRING have happened here in the frozen north, I had the vert out for some work. Front engine mount was replaced and that cured maybe half of the lurch. Poured in some LUCAS Trans Conditioner and put it back in storage! (Snow predicted for Thursday) I will take it out again later in the month and see if the LUCAS helps any. SUGGESTIONS STILL WELCOME
Galaxie500XL
My money's on the vacuum modulator being either disconnected, or bad. Without the modulator, line pressure is at maximum at all times, and will lead to harsh shifting. Not a fan of transmission conditioners, though...I would recommend a fluid and filter change, unless you know the service history of the car. willsboattail
FINALLY FIXED. And it was a clogged line to the Modulator. I also had the tranny serviced while they were at it! $300, but it's only money, right? Shifts smooth as silk! Now the car is for sale! Thanks to all for the advice given!
