ric_rocket Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 So I tried to fix my tie rod ends, and after whacking it for several hours with a pickle fork and a sledge, and dropping the car and bolt onto a bottle jack to try and force them appart, all I did was screw up the sleeve in the control arm. My mechanic had to weld a new piece in. Is there a "secret" that isn't in the repair manual? I know with my 69 to get the ball joint out you had to hit it with a hammer in a certain spot and everything fell apart (including the rear mouldings, but thats a different forum) Should I have tourched it, or is this an indicator of something else wrong, or what?? Slade901 Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Use a 2 jaw or 3 jaw puller instead and that is much easier and safe. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 You're supposed to use a screw type puller on it. My 3-jaw puller wasn't big enough, so I got a Pitman Arm Puller and it worked perfectly. Quote
