Has anyone dealt with code 42?

Code 42 is Electronic Spark Timing Failure... I am not sure what causes this code but when I go to clear it, It comes right back... I was thinking something with the ICM could cause it but I am not sure... I just swapped in the motor and am now getting this code although the car runs and drives fine... I dont like seeing lights on my dash

My S10 had a code 42 when I bought it. A new ICM fixed it.
