AL
I am guessing mine are bad because when I pour synchromesh into the 284, it starts dripping out where the CV Shafts connect into the trans, both sides... Isnt there a seal inside and outside? I think I would be ok with just the outer seal? I am tired of buying a bottle of synchromesh a day
AWeb80
if it's like my 4T60-e....there are snap ring type rings on the end of the splines that snap in place....but there are seals inside the trans that hold the fluid in.. White93z34
getrag 284 axle seals are super easy to change. no snap ring, just pull old out and tap new in. just an outer seal. no inner. I got timken ones from rock auto for around $6 each IIRC part number is 2003N I think. check the part number thread to be safe though. AL
Thats really good to hear... I will order those right now and when I get them in, hopefully I can stop leaving puddles under it.
White93z34
I was pleasantly surprised with the timken seals, GM ones are like $25 each now if you can still find them.
ss427
You can't..I tried..long discontinued! Make sure you drain enough out of the tranny before you pop the axles!!
AL
Oh trust me, its drained... I jacked up the front of the car and it dripped out of both sides a constant stream until it didnt drip anymore
ss427
That's an interesting way of draining it out, I went the route of taking out the drain plug when I did mine lol. Make sure you jack the car up level..if it tilts you may get some more dripping, and believe me you don't want to put new seals into messy bores. AL
I didnt mean to drain it lol... I had to check some connections to the ICM and crank sensor and when I crawled under I could see it dripping... I dont think there are any seals on there at the moment
