scotty
i want to switch the airbox out of my 91 cutlass and put it in my 88, the 88 has the round metal style, with the huge MAF sensor connected after it . the 91 airbox has the one thats in the airbox itself. i dont know if i can do this for one, and if so, how. the wiring harness goin to the one in the 88 has 5 wires, and the one for the 91 has 2 wires.eventually id like to go to a cold air intake, but i dont see how that would be possible with the jumbo MAF sensor
Redfox340
Well, the 1991 airbox has a Intake Air Tempreture (IAT) thermistor and that's not a the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. If you're wanting a CAI, you the existing 1988 tubing / sensor and fabricate a intake pipe and filter to add on as a replacement of your cylinder air box. - Erik
Robby1870
yeah, you cant just take out the MAF, thats what helps control fuel delivery! The IAT on your 91 doesnt factor into fuel delivery Robby
mdelorie
If the IAT doesn't control fuel delivery, then why did mine go into open loop with it disconnected?
Robby1870
If the IAT doesn't control fuel delivery, then why did mine go into open loop with it disconnected? I think the IAT is only really used at cold engine temps. I dont know why it went into open loop, the MAP and O2 are the main inputs for fuel delivery Robby
