cubsfan24
After driving about a half hours on the interstate, there is this loud clicking sound comming from what sounds to be my front drivers wheel. It did it a couple months ago very quitely but thought it was just a pebble stuck in the tire. Now the past week or so after the car has been driven for a while, the sound has gotten a lot worse. It is totally silent when cold. Also, I just jacked the car up and spun the tire by hand and hear no clicking. Here is the link to the video ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLnCzs3Utb8 HELP! This is very embarrassing.... even more than driving a lumina .. Oh this is on my 96 Lumina with 149k
tunerlover3
Check your brakes. It sounds louder when the brakes are applied.

cubsfan24
I was thinking that too but how can you explain why it only does it after the car has been driven for awhile? Also I took the tire off tonight and looked at the rotor/pads and spun the rotor around and everything seemed fine and no clicking noises. This was about 2 hours after I posted the video and took it for another drive and the sound was very quite. After about a half mile drive it got noticeably louder but not as loud as in the video. I guess I will take the caliper off and make sure everything is seated correctly. Anyone have any other ideas on what it could be?
tunerlover3
Could be happening when the brakes get hot. Umm check everything in the front. Ball joints, tie rods, control arm bushings, cradle bushings, top strut bearing.

cubsfan24
Anyway to test to see if a cv shaft is bad? I looked at the rubber boots last night and they looked good and weren't leaking.
Night Fury
CV makes a different noise. It's not them
Jonpro03
My cv clicked before and it seemed like it was a lot faster than that

hotrodolds
And, usually, a CV joint failing makes its noise when the front wheels are turned, and throttle is applied.
dodgethis
Cubs, just a thought. Do you have hub caps or not? I have a similiar situation and took off the hub cap and it went away. It came backwhen I put the hubcap back on. It's worth a shot.

Too bad I just spent the last two hours figuring that out myself! Took the wheel off and caliper off and everything seemed fine. Put the tire back on (without hubcap) and NO NOISE!!!!! I put that stupid piece of plastic back on and BAM there it is again. I swapped hubcaps with the passenger side and BAM now the passenger side is clicking. I currently have the faulty hubcap in the rear. If it starts making noise again I will just remove them all. I knew I hated hose plastic things. If my tires weren't in good condition I would get me a set of those aluminum wheels. Oh well all it cost me is a gallon of gas to fix it
rockfangd
a classic example of why every vehicle I purchase has to have aluminum rims. Not tacky or noisy lol
xtremerevolution
a classic example of why every vehicle I purchase has to have aluminum rims. Not tacky or noisy lol x2. Alloy wheels are cheap at a junkyard. Here in cali you can get wheels for $20 a pop.
cubsfan24
I would love to but I would have to get new tires. Unless I could find a set with decent tires on them I just don't have the money to blow on something that isn't necessary. Find me a set with decent tires for <$150 and id do it . Oh and the closest junkyard to me charges $18.99 + $15 core for a aluminum wheel! I think they haven't adjusted the prices since last summer when aluminum was so high. For some reason tires get picked over very fast at that junk yard.
dodgethis
Yea my tires are slowly getting close to bald, I thought I would go to j/y get some of the lumina aluminum 16 inch alloys and put new michellins on them.
