PROTESTtheHERO
i just recently got my 93 regal custom from my elderly neighbors. the engine has 80000kms on it, and i just changed the plugs (25 mins ago ). at first when i got the car it needed an ECU so i got one and installed it and it was perfect. but when i started driving it the service engine light would flash on once in a while 4 not long, then it became more frequent and for longer periods. now its always on and when i let off the gas(to stop or slow down) at random times, the engine just shuts off . it usually only does it once the engine has been running for 15-20 mins. anyone have suggestions? oh yeah, the parking brake light is on too so im wondering if that has something to do with the whole ordeal. i know i need at least one new wheel bearing on the front drivers side but im not sure what else may cause this to happen. this is my first post and this is my first car! jman093
Maybe an engine sensor. You really need to find out what the code is.
tunerlover3
3.8 shut off when gas is let off Oh snap! The parking light has nothing to do with it. Does the engine just shut off right away or does it start dying and shut off?

I had to replace my TPS on my regal twice (95 3800 L27). It wouldn't be surprising to find out that yours is dead. HOWEVER...when my TPS went bad, it just idled too high, then threw an engine code and went into some kind of limp mode and ran like crap. It ran, but ran like crap with little or no power. xtremerevolution
I paid $80ish for mine at a local advance auto store, but otherwise, rockauto is the way to go. your other bet is to go to a junkyard and get like 3 of them and keep 2 in your glove compartment. they are a bitch to get off though if you have the same type of throttle body as I do. AL
CLEAN YOUR THROTTLE BODY FIRST!! Before buying a sensor, Take your throttle body off and take the sensors out and take a couple cans of carb cleaner and clean it out
89GP_SE
Do you have problems with the car idling in park?
Spilly
I haven't had any issues with my TPS. Weird.
PROTESTtheHERO
yeah cleaning out sounds like a good idea but my bro (mechanic) took his multimeter to the wire n saw that its fine n checked the sensor and saw that it was dead (yes he knows how to use his multimeter, hes not a dumbass). it sits fine at idle with very little problems. the idle doesnt sit still it goes up and down but very minimally. im only concerned because i have yet to do my e-test and im running a temp sticker that expires tomorrow and i can only get one more 10 day for the whole year. being a part of the emissions control system im either guna run high CO2 levels or high NOx levels due to running rich or lean
