randini667
Ok, so my car is crapped out and I don't have any tools on me and no way to get them. Ok, just a few odd tools... Not to mention, the apartment complex won't let me jack up the car and work on it in the driveway. Didn't want to pay to tow it to my dad's garage. Anyways, here's where I'm at with replacing the fuel pump. Chisel, caliper for hammer, screwdriver, and a t-shirt. Just make sure you hack between the spot welds and you'll be fine... randini667
ROFLMAO, you guys are great... No HUD. Not sure what DIS means.
jman093
ROFLMAO, you guys are great... No HUD. Not sure what DIS means. Usually it's DIC. Driver Info Center. Maybe Olds called it a DIS or something. Usually DIS is an engine term for Distributorless Ignition System, which your car also has.

mfewtrail
It's not something I'd do, but I don't see what the big deal is... ^What he said. You're definitely not the first to take that route with a car that has no fuel pump access panel.
Crazy K
the FSM calls them all DISs (Driver Information System)... even the GP ones.
Dark Ride
It's not something I'd do, but I don't see what the big deal is... X3, I personally would never do it to any car I liked, but now you will never fear a fuel pump change.
randini667
So just what was the T-shirt for. To seal the hole? lol Naa, used scotch tape to seal the hole. I wrapped the t-shirt around and old caliper (that I used as my hammer) so I wouldn't dirty my precious hands. I know most people wouldn't do this, but she has 208k miles, I like her, but not that much Brian was right, I read another post on here on this topic, he received rants and raves too. Life's too short, I wanted to do something different. But yeah, no DIS or HUD that I know of. Just the usual gauges, digital.
GOT2B GM
Hahaha at least you could have cut a square hole!!
LuminaPower92
If it was me I would have cut a round hole then stole a seal from a 9-5 or something with those huge round seals.
Imp558
A friend and I did that to a caravan about 5 years ago. We cut a somewhat more uniform hole but hey, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. We covered ours with 16GA steel, riveted it down and used seam sealer. There was a brief discussion of sheet metal screws but having the sharp points aimed at the gas tank was unsettling.
tornado_735
A little crooked, but it looks ok to me. Gonna be a hell of a lot easier than dropping the tank.
Spilly
I would do the same thing, except I'd carefully use a hole saw drill bit. Then find a circular rubber grommet of sorts.

RTV would work quite well in this situation...
Radnsmash
I'd rather go with the davidsfarm "redneck gas tank"

And with the high mileage and the fact that it gets covered up with A SEAT and that nobody will ever see it or know about it, who cares. It works for him given his somewhat dire and forced situation. Necessity is the mother of invention
