Hi there,

I was going through the Rockauto catalog to find some upper strut mounts for the front suspension of my 98 Lumina, when I found that there appear to be two different types of strut mounts.

One for HD Suspension and one for non-HD suspension, but only from some Manufacturers.

Monroe for example seems to have one part for all uses (Part number 901921),

whilst KYB has one for HD (Part number SM5030),

and one for non-HD (Part number SM5029). Its the same with AcDelco.

The difference in price is about $1.

I tried to find a difference in the pictures of the parts, but in my opinion the parts look absolutely identical (as far as one can see from 2 pictures taken at different angles).

There might possibly be a difference in the diameter of the hole for the strut in the mount, but I don't really think so as the same struts can be used with both mounts.

Now what the hell is the difference between the two parts (except from $1 in price and the "HD" tag)? :willynilly: :dunno:

Does anybody know or has anybody tried out these parts yet?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

HD is probably for the 9C1 police package Luminas. A lot of stuff was heavier duty on those.

honestly I have yet to change a front strut mount, they just don't wear out like the rear ones do.

I was thinking the same thing, i've replaced the front mounts on mine once so far and that was after i changed out the cartridges since i was getting a clunk.
