Stevo
Lately my key does not want to come out of the ignition. When I shut the car off usually I have to wait for a delayed click in order for the ignition to release my key. Sometimes I have to release the brake or parking brake and again turn the key turned forward, shift the car to park and then rotate the key back several times. Other times I have to start the car, put it in drive, roll it forward a bit, put it in park and HOPE the car releases my key. Anyone have a clue what is going on here. So far the last year has been a nightmare, now I know why someone got rid of it.
1990lumina
Sounds like the car doesn't know it is in Park - even if it IS in Park. I'd take the center sonsole apart and check the mechanism that gets pushed when the shifter goes to Park. Maybe there is coffee or something else making it sticky and not functioning 100% - or you have a dying solenoid somewhere in that system as well. Twenty
I had a similar problem once, except it was when I went to start the car. I put the key in, but it wouldn't fully turn, and when I tried to pull it out it stuck . I ended up hitting it and then turned it again, and it worked. It's only been the one time though. digitaloutsider
The little shitty mechanism on the shifter itself is gummed full of something or on it's way out. You can get your key out by removing a little access hole on the bottom of the column and sticking a pen or something in there.
Stevo
Hmmm ... I did spill coffee on the console a while back.
1990lumina
Who really knows dude. That could have caused it - or added to the problem. Or it might just be dying slowly. I know on the Swift+ (Or Aveo, G3, Wave, etc...lol) the shift solenoid in the center console ALWAYS fucks up so you can't shift out of park lol. I've replaced like 50 of them in a year. Sometimes they come back and get ANOTHER one for free hahaha
sl3196
Mine does that half the time I shut off the car. I reach in the column right under the key and push a little button that releases it. Kinda a pain in the ass but when you know were the button is it isn't worth it to me to fix it lol. Well then I guess a failing shifter solenoid isn't much to complain about haha!!I'd just permentatenly stick something in there to hold the button hahaha

Mine went out last year and in the mean time of getting it fixed, I removed the little plastic cover underneath the steering column, and stuck a pen cap up there and it would release the key

Stevo
It's DEFINITELY something to do with the brakes and the ignition. I have been experimenting with different situations. If I put it in park and press hard on the pedal right after firmly putting it in park the key will release. I think there is an electrical issue here. Stevo
Ok folks. I am sick of the fact that every odd week it seems that something stops working on my car. Seeing that it's getting to be like summer out, I am fix'in to fix my money pit. First stop... The shift lock solenoid. Common for the Regal??? Here it is on the Grand Pricks. I am going to assume that this shift lock solenoid is common on all trim levels so I can pull one from an SE, GT as well as GTP. Someone stated that there is a good chance the problem will come back if you use one from a yard so I say fuggit. The dealer wants about $100 for it. Stevo
Ok ... I'm sorry for bumping this up. For some reason. I cannot take the car out of park now. When I click on the shift button to pull it out of park, I can hear the solenoid in the column click. I have to use the shiftlock to get it to move out of park. How does someone fix this? Any links?
