Scott205
1992 Olds Cutlass Supreme S - 3.4L TDC DOHC V6 w/ auto tranny Hey guys, I need help. I keep blowing the 30a Fusible link on the Right Side Underhood Electrical Center (bottom right side next to the A/C Relay) It seems to happen when I am quickly pressing the gas pedal to take off or pass someone. Can drive for a week or two, then one too quick of a movement on the throttle and pop, the car dies. Seems to control the ignition module for the coil pack and it also turns off the a/c and radio. I have had the radio off the last few times it has blown the link (and atleast once it was a 50a becuase I couldn't find a 30 or 40a). Any ideas what to look at ?? I don't understand how it could be blowing the link rather than a standard fuse. Ok, think I found the short.. the power steering hose had rubbed off the flex jacket and into the wiring, so when engine rocked back it was probably shorting. Moved the wire, thought I fixed the short, started the car and found out I lose the Ignition Control Module. When it first blew I thought it was the Ignition module (i have went through about 3). But it still cranked and didn't run. A couple of notes: I have a 96-97 engine and have moved the module and coil packs up by the power steering pump like they did in later models. Still the original a/c and radio. Going to pull the wires apart and retape them individually, check the fuses and try my other ICM. Crazy K
try replacing the fuseable link with a fuse holder! they make them that way for a few bucks at any parts store, so if it pops, you stick a new fuse in and go. Most likely you have a major wire shorting to ground somewhere. start searching.
1990lumina
When you are punching it hard the engine is rokcing back - whatever wire that is shorting out only shorts out with the motor rocked back. I'd start looking around in the engine bay - anything that makes contact when rocking the motor is suspect right now. I know it sucks. You may want to even just find a donor car with a complete harness and swap it.
Octavarium454
I don't know if this may help you in any way, but my 95 GTP with the 3.4 had plenty of electrical problems. I was blowing my gauge cluster fuse and my reverse lights. This short was actually enough to come close to killing the motor. It turned out that the big mess of wires leading to the fire wall had someone be rubbed down and I literally had 8 bare/broken wires sticking out. I would check there first. 89SupremeCutty
could be a bad motor mount causing the engine to rock so far it's pinching wires causing the blown fuse.
