Grand Moff Joseph
Does anyone still have the installation guide that FFP published for their pulleys? Also, how much shorter if a serpentine belt do I need? I'm thinking maybe 2-3 inches?

Mach 5
UD Pulley Installation Instructions Thanks for your purchase! Please read all of this information BEFORE attempting to install your new 2.8/3.1/3100/3400 under drive pulley!!! First things first... It’s important that everyone know the difference between a balancer and a damper. All 60° FWD V6s use a DAMPER, which means the engine is internally balanced and does not require a separate weight (off center) on the end of the crank to balance the engine. Other engines, like the 3800s, however, are NOT internally balanced and require additional weight to balance the crankshaft. If you look on the back side of the 3800 crank pulley, you’ll notice a large, off-center weight. This weight is used to properly balance the engine. This is not necessary for your GM 60° V6. Although your new under drive pulley does not utilize a conventional three piece design (steel hub/rubber ring/steel rim), we do NOT believe there is any danger of engine damage from using this pulley. However, since we cannot guarantee how it will be used, or how it will be installed, etc., FAST FORWARD PERFORMANCE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ENGINE/VEHICLE DAMAGE THAT IS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY CAUSED BY THE USE OF THIS PRODUCT! By installing this pulley, you understand and accept this statement. This does not mean that your new UD pulley is not of the finest quality. These UD pulleys are fully CNC machined from 6061 T6 hardened aircraft aluminum, which is very durable. The pulley is 18% smaller than stock (5.0" vs. 6.1"). The pulley also features a STEEL sleeve on the shaft to prevent oil leaks and increase seal and pulley life. This IS a very high quality part and will give you many years of trouble free performance. You will need to purchase a shorter belt (around $25 for a gatorback). Since every chassis (and some years) uses a different belt length (due to engine mount design), the best way to find the correct belt for your application is to first find out what length your stock belt is and subtract one inch.. Any parts store should be able to help you with this. Have them look up the belt number for your application… the last 3 digits of the belt number is the length of the belt. For example, a belt number of 5060715 would have a length of 71.5â€. Once you know the stock belt length, subtract 1†to get your new belt length. Then have them get you a belt with the correct last 3 digits. For those of you with the 3100/3400SFI engines, you will need to take the 24X crank sensor ring out of the stock pulley and install it in your new UD pulley. The easiest way to do this is to get 3 spacers (same height) and space the stock pulley up off the ground (face up). Using a flat ended punch and a hammer, GENTLY tap on the ring, working it lose. DO NOT POUND ON IT IN ONE SPOT as this will bend the ring. Work your way around until the ring comes out. Be sure to straighten the ring out before installing it in the new pulley. The new UD pulley is tapered on the back side so you can easily start the ring and then tap it in until it bottoms out. Once you have the ring bottomed in the pulley and it is flat, install the 3 small set screws using one drop of BLUE thread locker on each one. There is no reference mark on the ring (all holes are equally spaced), so you can put it in any way you can. GM says you have to do a crank sensor relearn whenever you remove the damper (even when the relationship is not changed), but we have installed this pulley several times and have never had to. We have never even had an SES light. If you do have problems, your local dealer should be able to reset your ECM. If you don’t want to do this, you can usually disconnect your battery for 24 hours and the computer will reset. Again, we have never had a problem with this, so you should not have to do anything with the ECM. General Installation Instructions: 1. Safely raise vehicle and remove passenger side wheel 2. Remove the inner splash guard(s) from wheel well to access pulley 3. Remove serpentine accessory belt 4. Remove center bolt (usually 15mm or 18mm) using a SIX POINT socket. You may need to have a friend hold the teeth on the flywheel/flexplate to prevent the crank from turning. 5. Use a harmonic balancer/damper removing tool to pull stock pulley off 6. Lube up the sealing surface of the new pulley with light grease or oil. 7. USE ANTI-SEIZE on the inside of the pulley’s hub. Aluminum is softer than the iron crank, and could get scarred up if not lubricated with anti-seize. Also put some silicone sealant in the keyway to prevent an oil leak. 8. Place UD pulley on crank and start center bolt. MAKE SURE YOU START IT STRAIGHT! If you do not get the pulley on the crank square, the pulley could get scarred up. DO NOT POUND THE PULLEY ONTO THE CRANK! 9. Once you have it started, hold the flywheel/flexplate and tighten the bolt to proper spec (check your specific shop manual as the torque spec varies). 10. Install your new belt 11. Install Splash guard(s) and passenger side wheel. Remember to torque lug nuts! 12. That’s it!
