Octavarium454
After destroying my 3.4 DOHC for a 3rd time this summer, I have decided to say good bye to dual overhead cams and hello to pushrods, and a supercharger. I posted a ad on craigslist and within 2 hours I got a guy selling me a 99 L67 out of a Regal GS that includes the harness, engine, transmission, and axles. All for 900 dollars. Oh and the motor has MSD coils and wires on it. Now to my dilemma. How big of a pain in the ass is it going to be to get this thing going? I've taken a glance at the harness and I'm pretty sure I know where a majority of the wires go (I pick up the motor in two weeks, giving me time to sort out this shit). But what do I have to do to get it to hook up to the interior harness. I know on the interior I got to re-pin the OBD 1.5 connector to accept OBD II. Any help or guides would be very appreciated. 95 vert
It would be alot easier if you find a harness from a 98-99 Monte/Lumina 3800 car. Alot less work to make the wiring mate to the car. I've done this in a 95 Cutlass and I can help with the ins and outs of doing the swap. Email is seventyolds442@yahoo.com
jman093
You'll also need the subframe from a 98-99 Z34, as the mounts are different on a 90 degree V6.
White93z34
no. the 88-90 subframe was different but IIRC it was the same subrame used in all 1g/1.5g w-bodys from 91-

White93z34
I was 99% sure I was correct, but then was thinking "well maybe... hmmm" yeah he will just use that dumb cup mount that the 3.4 does not use. I came so close to chopping that dumb thing out when I has the subframe outa the car

White93z34
the big difference is that the 88-90 subframes don't have the drivers rear transmission mount provisions that the 91-01 subframes have, no early car used it, but starting 91, they all had it. I want to say it is specifically for how the trans mounts with the 3.4, but I don't know as I only really only know how the 3.4s mount the 3.4 though does not use the big cup engine mount point that is in the middle of t he subframe on the pass side. thats the one I wanted to cut out. Octavarium454
Well I'm making my junkyard run today to pick up a wiring harness. Should be pretty easy considering how many Luminas and Montes are sitting there. Hell I'll bring my camera. Oh and since I gotta get a different harness is anyone interested in an engine harness out of a 99 Regal GS?
brianteel
if you need any help hit me up i have done alot of swaps and can give you all the in ands wiring axles ac lines info you would ever want. first thing all 3800 from a w-body car will bolt into a older w-body car. That includes the L32 out of the GP. next engine harness dont use anything but the monte or lumina harness. i have used alot of different ones and they all suck but the 1.5 gen harness. intake use a 97 GTP intake tube. it makes a nice right angle and you can stick a cone filter on the end fuel lines. remove the black plastic line and use rubber fuel line attaching it to the car and the fuel rails. use the stock downpipe or custom. the pre mades it like crazy and are annoying. the power logs from ZZP fit very nice ac lines from the 3.4 DOHC bolt onto the L67 Compressor from 97-02 for sure. 04+ it does not work axles, drive side inner needs to be changed to the l67. passager side outer of the L67 axles needs to be changed to the 1st gen car. hoses all the L67 hoses will work you mighthave to trim the lower radiator house to fit. off the top of my head that is all i can think of
Galaxie500XL
How's the performance compared to the DOHC?
brianteel
you can not really compare it. The car i just finished is a L32 with rockers pully and a ZZP power logs. it is a torquey because of the blower. over all you are going to get more power faster and cheaper from the L67 or L32 than the DOHC. stock L67 in the older car will give the 3.4 a run it is money. if you like the w-body and want to swap i say go for it. It is very reilable and alot of fun to drive.
xtremerevolution
lol. 215hp/215tq vs 240hp/280tq faster for sure. and with an infinitely larger aftermarket.
Octavarium454
Holy crap I didn't realize how hard it would be to find a harness for this damn thing. My best bet is I noticed Milzy Motorsports has one out of a 99 Monte Carlo. I finally picked up my radiator/heater hoses today and my power steering pressure line. Whats this fuel line repair kit you are all talking about though? Oh and with the axles, the guy I am buying my motor from is actually giving me the whole sub frame with strut towers. Could I just throw on those strut towers or do I have to take mine apart? I pick up the motor next week so I'm hoping that I can still figure out my electrical and install the harness while I wait. It sucks though, senior year for me starts this week so my time will be drawn away from this.

No you can not use subframe or any of the suspension parts from the car you are getting it from. for the fuel line just get injector hose and clamp it. it will be the easiest solution for you.
