sloick Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 My Z34 starts and runs fine. idle at start up is normal, about 800-850 i guess. after being driven for a few minutes the idle jumps to 3000rpm if i shut it off and turn it back on while rolling 8 time out of 10 it idles fine again untill being driven again. any guesses before i find out for sure? vacuum lines, iac, tps? i really hope its not the lower intake gaskets. i dont know because it idles fine after being shut off, and no codes yet. do the heads need to come off to change the lim's? BXX Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Sounds like the IAC is sticking or bad.. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Something obscure but also a possibility is a defective power steering "idle up" switch on the rack. Happened on my old white 93 Z. Quote
Andrew Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 its not the LIM's. those are worse when cold. and for the record, the heads do NOT have to come off for them to be replaced. the procedure is really quite easy. Quote
AL Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Check your vacuum lines... Mine did this and the vacuum T by the rear spark plug (closest to drivers side) was loose Quote
sloick Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 iac came out looking like this. the other part was still in the hole but it was still hot so it fell into the great abyss known as a 3.4 junkyard trip tomorrow. Quote
White93z34 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 just so long as the top of it did not fall into the engine... Quote
sloick Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 just so long as the top of it did not fall into the engine... that would have sucked. it went behind the motor somewhere. Quote
