dylan1630 Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Ok i have been hearing this rattling noise when i drive for a while, I thought it was my tail pipe. Me and my dad checked it out and it was in place and it wasn't hitting anything when we shook it. So we figured it was something in my trunk, and the reprograming remote wire was hanging loose and a clip was too so we figured it was that. we taped it in place and it wasn't that either. so my dad got under and started looking at other things under the car, and he found that part of the suspension that helps hold the rear end in place is rusted out, and i think a sway bar is hanging. I can't exactly remember, but it really sucks. It's not a good thing either, but we're gonna have to put a metal plate in where it rusted out. I don't know when it happened because I used to jack the car up there in like january-april when i was working on it. The piece is gone where i jacked it up! We're going to try our best to repair this, I can't let my grand prix fall apart when i'm getting ready to sell it. Has this happened to anyone else? Quote
oscar_wilde Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Sorry to hear that. It doesn't sound very good at all for a unibody. Pictures? Quote
hotrodolds Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 This sounds like the forward trailing arm mount has rusted off. Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 This sounds like the forward trailing arm mount has rusted off. thats what happened to my monte last year, had an alignment guy fix it by welding in a good thick plate of steel where it rotted through, doing great now... Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 This sounds like the forward trailing arm mount has rusted off. That was my first thought, but then he said he jacked it from there? Bad spot to jack when there is a "jack pad" in the middle of the car! Jamie Quote
1990lumina Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 I always jack the car up on the trailing mount mount. Never had an issue. I don't trust that jack pad thing at all. Mine isn't even rusty and I don't trust it Quote
dylan1630 Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 I ordered 2 new trailing arms, I'm picking them up tonight. We had to put 2 thick pieces of metal around where the trailing arm is held in the passenger side to the body, the driver side is in decent shape, but it was probably a good idea to get a new trailing arm for that side too Quote
xtremerevolution Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 makes me scared to drive my car in illinois again. I have 204k miles on my car now with very little rust. california car... Quote
