88red4cyl
I have been under the impression that my Monte had the lz4 non-FlexFuel engine (auto zone said the FF version has a yellow gas cap, which mine does not)... Anywho, when I replaced my vent valve the other day, I noticed the line from the filler neck said E-85 Ethanol... This kind of surprised me a little, as my car is lacking both the FF badging, and the yellow gas cap... So I took a look at the RPO codes, and sure enough, it has the lze engine... Which brings me to my question: What are the differences between the FlexFuel and non-FlexFuel versions of this motor? Is it just in the fuel delivery system, or are there internal differences as well?
tunerlover3
I believe it is the whole fuel system and the engine management thats different.
hotrodolds
Yes. The fuel management and delivery systems will be different...because they have to be. The engines themselves are most likely the same, unless there are differences in the heads for the way the fuel burns different, but I'm shooting in the dark on that one, to be honest. BXX
2006 models DO NOT have the yellow fuelcap or flex fuel badges on the trunk
Brian P
Injectors are also much bigger on the Flex fuel engines to account for the increased fuel needed when running E85.

I thought they PCM just increased pulse width when on the E85 tune. I didnt know they ran different injectors.
Night Fury
A new possibility for increased fuel need applications!?!?!?!

The flow difference is way too large between running gasoline and E85 that IIRC the injectors are around 40 lbs... Can't increase the duty cycle of a typical 24 lb injector enough to get those kinds of #'s.
