So, I got the engine and transmission back into my 97 cutlass supreme thanks to the members of this board. Started right up the first time, no lights, nothing out of the ordinary. Then the oil pressure light came on. And stayed on.

The engine is running ok, but I didn't want to run it very long without having a way to check the oil pressure manually. I did see in the service manual (Chiltons) that as the sensor receives less pressure, it grounds out. I checked the wire from the sensor and it only registers 44 ohms to ground. I would expect it to be more open than that.

Can anyone tell me if that is about normal or if I perhaps tweaked a wire somewhere while I was putting the engine back in.

Or worse, does anyone know if 44 ohms between the connector and ground (not the sensor) is normal and I somehow managed to dingle my oil pump and I actually don't have any oil pressure.

Sadly, I'm leaving town for a week tomorrow, so I won't be able to hook up a manual oil pressure gauge until next weekend.

Thanks,

Ryan

I'd check the wiring. Definitely possible to have pinched a wire, or something along those lines. I'd double check for leaks, and then probably replace the oil pressure switch while you're at it.

Got this problem resolved. I hooked up a manual oil pressure gauge and determined that the engine had good oil pressure. Replaced the pressure sender and all is better. I guess it was just coincidence that the pressure sender died while I had the engine out of the car.
