shuck
I am unable to get the passenger side axle into the transmission with my one-man strength. Any hints or clues to getting them in? The driver's side went in pretty easily, but I had taken it out a couple months ago, also it's the opposite connection. Any help is really appreciated. GOT2B GM
line up spline, push. push harder use a block of wood and a hammer and show it a little love.
shuck
Where can I hammer on it? I don't think I can hammer the axle outside of the joint, can I? To me, it feels like I'm not able to get the snap ring past the notch inside the shaft receptacle. (so to speak)
GOT2B GM
yeah you can hammer on the end of the thread (protecting the thread with the wood) Or use a longer prybar or screwdriver and there should be some slots in the casting on the inboard end of the CV shaft that you can hammer on. If that makes any sense.
shuck
And there isn't anything cosmic about lining up the splines, is there? I mean, there are like 28 different positions it could be in - there isn't a special notch or anything, right? Thanks for the quick help - I'm posting in my garage as I work! White93z34
what i've had sucess with is thread the axle nut back on somewhat, put a rag over it and tap your axle nut socket onto it, then you can wail on it some.
GOT2B GM
any of those "28" positions will work , just a standard spline
shuck
Sweet - I got it. I used the prybar on the notch - that worked to get it started. I had the whole axle together, never took off the hub nut or even the ball joint, just let it sit behind the tranny and rest on the suspension while I had the engine out. Thanks again for the help!
