CutSupreme93 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 has anyone removed their cat converter and replaced it with a regular exhaust pipe? i have a 1993 cutlass 3.4 dohc. Quote
slick Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Tons of people have. What are you trying to ask? Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 LOTS of people. and it will make the exhaust a hell of a lot louder. sometimes i think the cat does a better job muffling the exhaust than the actual mufflers... Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 what size pipe and everything i need to do this, i figured more then a few have done this, whats the best way to go about it? Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 i think the inlets and outlets of the cat are different sizes? if so, you'll need to just remove the cat using a saw-zall or something similar, then get the correct amount of pipe to replace it, possibly with adaptors to adjust for the size difference(if there is any). also, get the clamps, because if your exhaust is rusted to shit, welding won't be as effective. CutSupreme93 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 alrighty thanks for the help Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 cut the cat out today and have decided its a little bit to loud, will a longer or better quality resonator quiet it down any? (the pipe i replaced it with was one of the $5 resonator pipes at autozone) Quote
tunerlover3 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 A used a cherry bomb glasspack in place of my car and my car is still louder then hell lol Straight pipe FTW!!!! Why did you cut your cat off? Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 it was clogged up im just wondering if i can get rid of some of the noise under the cabin, i knew the exhaust was gonna get alot louder but didnt know the majority of the loudness was gonna be under the cabin. Quote
tunerlover3 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Then im guessing you have an exhaust leak. What kind of exhaust are you running? Is it stock with the cat delete? Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 yeah its just the stock system with the cat delete for for, do you mean like a gap in the pipe i put in? Quote
tunerlover3 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Yes the exhaust must not be sealed if you are getting a lot of cabin noise. Just deleting your cat wont make it super ass loud. Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 thanks i bought some sealer from autozone im gonna do everything tomorrow and hopefully everything works out fine. thanks for the help Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 no its like a putty that is suppost to harden after it cures Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 don't expect it to last long.... Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 what would you suggest using? Quote
tunerlover3 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 The right exhaust pipes lol Or get it welded. Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 get it welded. right idea, probably a tough execution though. if the exhaust is rusted to hell, and it probably is, you HAVE to clean a good portion of it off for the weld to last. that putty is basically a high-temp JB Weld. Quote
CutSupreme93 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 ill probably just use the putty for now and when i goto get the flowmasters installed i'll have them weld a pipe in. Quote
tunerlover3 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Theres a guy in Joliet that will do it for cheap....... I just gotta remember the name of the shop. Quote
tornado_735 Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Would cutting the cat out of a '94 GP mess with the computer at all? This is something I have considered doing. Quote
