GOT2B GM Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 Sorry for the asstastic cell pics, all I had on me. Here they are, both in the stock untouched form. The 284 flatbar shifter has a larger diameter shift cable pin which I have to remove and weld onto the 282 tubular shifter. Now I've cut the weld the shifter tube off of the bracket, shortened the tube as well as swapped pins, ready for welding Welded up Dads nice garage where I modified my shifter Painted Installed Quote
jake91 Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 now the boot is to tall, but overall i love it Quote
GOT2B GM Posted August 7, 2009 Author Report Posted August 7, 2009 The boot is already rolled down into itself, working on having a new boot made by a guy that makes them for the Fiero crowd Quote
White93z34 Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 so hows it perform? I keep kicking around the idea of shortening my spare shifter. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted August 8, 2009 Author Report Posted August 8, 2009 I'm happy with it. Nice feel. You can try it for yourself at the next meet. Quote
Andrew Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 damn why didnt i think of that? looks great! Quote
w-bodys_are_the_best Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 So are all 282 shifter in W's the tube type? MY Cutlass has the flat bar with the 284, and my Z24 has a flat bar with the 282. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted August 8, 2009 Author Report Posted August 8, 2009 In reality, I think the real breakdown is that all 5 spd GP's regardless of 282 or 284 came with tubular shifters. The only difference between the two being the diameter of the shift cable pin. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Yea, and all Cutlass shifters were the bar type. I imagine all Luminas had the tube type as well. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted August 8, 2009 Author Report Posted August 8, 2009 All Luminas had the bar type Quote
GP1138 Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Looks nice! Though, would it have been easier to just cut the top and re-tap the threads? Or are the threads raised some? Quote
GOT2B GM Posted August 8, 2009 Author Report Posted August 8, 2009 This was easier, didnt take me very long at all. Not to mention I didnt have the correct die to rethread the tube. Fabricating custom metal components is a part of my job. Quote
intern8tion9l Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 the bar type makes it difficult to find a good shift knob....i managed to put a sweet one on though with the use of plastic spacers. on there like a rock too Quote
