So.............. I have been experiencing some trans issues like hard shifts, missed shifts, etc. overall acting pretty sloppy...

What can I expect?

You can expect the trans to fail really soon...

Dont be suprised if a hardpart is about to break and blow through the case.. In that case, it may cost more for a rebuild (unusable core)

Either find uber low mileage ones at a yard with a warrenty, or get it rebuilt professionally preferrable before something actually breaks..

So was the fluid on my best friends 96 Grand Caravan with 112K on it. I checked it last week, 2 days ago it sent a spider gear through the trans case after he shifted outta park :willynilly:

Clean fluid just means everything was maintained, but a trans is still gonna wear out no matter what, and hardparts to break. Hell, it could be a torque convertor issue or a cracked clutchplate in the trans.. either way from the sound of it and what your telling me your gonna need a trans rebuild..

Take it to a good trans shop and see what they can tell..

Bob,

I agree with some of your assumptions, but will say one thing.

I was weary of Buck buying a car with that many miles, but there are certain tell-tale signs (small ones) that tell me that I would not expect transmission problems in that car, not at this stage.

Seat wear and hood stone chips tell me that the car was driven at high speeds, like a long distance commuter, but not in traffic. Transmission wear for highway cruising should be minimal

Buck,

Wishing you the best, but unfortunately expecting the worst. Sorry dude.

I know when the AC compressor was self destructing in my bonneville it made a awful scraping noise for about forever, it may or may not have any relation to your problem.

Mmm kay. Only did the scraping noise two or three times but had plenty of examples of shitty shifts. I have a witness who I will also have try to describe it.

Buck(driver)- Seems to 'double shift' or slip when you give it enough gas to downshift. Not like flooring it at all, just enough to downshift once.

As for the noise, happens right around a moderately heavy shift. Kinda a tinny, sheet metal rattling, buzzing, IDK.

Chelsea(passenger)- So I was ridding with Buck and it would slip in the shifting whenever he would force it to shift. It would mainly happen when he was already going over 40 and would give it gas, then it would feel like it would slip once and then catch the next time.

Also the scraping sound...It was faint and hard to hear sometimes but it would happen when it was about to shift to the next gear. It was a metal rattling sound, definitely not a good sound....

Oh and my passenger side exhaust tip HOWLSSS at high rpm... It was enough to scare me the first time it happened... I'll need to get that fixed... Dumbass had some fairly shitty welds
