Coolant level sensor

Galaxie500XL

Recommended Posts

I have replaced the radiator in my '95 Cutlass convertible 3.4 DOHC, and run into a problem. The coolant low sensor keeps lighting up after the radiator was replaced. I noticed that the sensor was leaking, so I purchased a new sensor, but the problem persists. The light will go out for a little while, then come back on...and the radiator is definitely full. Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be appreciated...

i had the same thing happen on my previous car after i flushed and change the sensor. Does it come back on when you accelerate? And turn off when you’re braking? If that’s the case I believe your radiator is still low on coolant.

Could be ther wrong sensor that you installed.

Also, could have a short in the wires. To prove if it is a sensor, disconnect the sensor and drive. It should not come on. If it comes on then it is the wiring.

I was debating disconnecting it to check, but was not sure how the circuit worked. I've bought the factory service manuals for the car (EBay, $38.00), but they're not here yet.

Mine has been disconnected since the swap. All the time without coolant in the radiator caused it to fail.

I check my oils and such often and I do watch my gauges.

Mine is messed up too, it comes on while i'm driving and then it starts flickering really fast but it's like $52 for a new one which is ridiculous, so i'm probably gonna just unplug mine and check it to make sure it's not low.

I believe I've resolved the problem. The design of the sensor is rather poor, and can allow an air bubble to be trapped in the sensor. When I went to church last night, I parked the car up on the hill with the right side of the car on the low side, which seems to have allowed a trapped air bubble to escape from the sensor. The light has stayed off ever since.
