Ned Flanders
This started after the computer was changed out. The car seems to be shifting fine otherwise and the fluid is nice and pink. This doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when I've been driving for a while, I'll goose the gas pedal and the rpms will shift up to 3000 and just hang there. It drops down to normal when I idle, but when I accelerate away, it goes up to 3000 and won't downshift. Normally the only way to remedy it is to cut the car off and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. What's going on?
1990lumina
Will this car have a kickdown cable? Might be misadjusted
Ned Flanders
Ahhh - that's the first I've ever heard of a kickdown cable. I'll ask.
Crazy K
Ahhh - that's the first I've ever heard of a kickdown cable. I'll ask. if it is the 95 3100... not it does not. anything with an E tranny does not have a kickdown cable. when is that last time you changed your fluid and filter? Ned Flanders
About 50,000 miles ago. I ran it over a mountain today and it did fine. I can work around the issue with cruise control. It's only when I give the throttle a whack, like when I go to pass someone. Is there anything in the computer that would cause this? Because I'll be mad as hell to lose a transmission at 153,xxx miles.

Our cars could also benefit from an auxilary transmission cooler, but I'm like a broken record everyone says when I say that.... yet it has done the trick.... Ned Flanders
I will give the cooler some serious thought. I'm at the point where I'm wondering how much more money I should spend on this car.

I understand.. but a replacement car costs alot more than fixing what you've got.
Ned Flanders
I need to clean it out and clean it up. Then I'll feel better about it! Work sucks and I haven't had time for anything. I was encouraged though that the Buick sailed over a pretty steep mountain, never dropping below 70. A friend of mine was on a GSXR and commented that the car looks pretty good, just not from behind, LOL.
