roomylumy Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 My spoiler is faded and originally I was just going to ask what is the best way to prep and paint it as it is not metal, but now also I noticed it is split along the seam. Any suggestions on reapair, and also the painting. Thanks. Quote
pontiacmaniac94 Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 ummm.....well, repair? get a fiberglass kit from a local auto paint place, and sand the spoiler down around the crack, fill with the fiberglass resin, and if use the fiberglass mesh to fill in the holes if there are any. Otherwise, go to the local yard and just pick one up for cheap. the painting? sand it down, removing all the clearcoat. then, continue to sand down, using a finer and finer grit till you are happy with it, (i usually go 80-100-200-320-400-600-800-1500) but more than likely you can stop at around 600 or so. Prime it, after the prime has dried, wet sand with the 600 or higher sandpaper. Prime again, wetsand. After the primer has dried completely, paint with the selected base coat color. Wetsand once it is dry, paint again, wet sand. Clearcoat, wetsand, clearcoat, wetsand. If you want it to look the best, the more coats of base and clear you use, the better off you are, and the more durable it will be. However, this might cause the rest of the paint to look much more faded then the rest of the car. personally? I would just try and find another lumina with the same color as your own, and then swap them out. but that is just me, and you might not have the same oppurtunties for that. Quote
Crazy K Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 or... go to a j/y and find a better spoiler. euros are common enough... or is it a Z34? Quote
roomylumy Posted July 31, 2009 Author Report Posted July 31, 2009 It is just a Z34 spoiler. The color won't be a problem, since it is a black spoiler on a blue car. I'm tackling that this weekend. Thanks. Quote
Go4DaMo Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Ooo, the Z34 spoiler would be slightly harder to find and 5x more expensive than a Euro's Quote
bodeen2007 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 i have a z34 spoiler if you need it i'll take 40 bucks plus shipping Quote
Go4DaMo Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 I'm debating coming to pick it up. I drive to Hinckley a lot...you're 25 minutes away. What color is it? Quote
