supreme_style21
I want to get XM radio for my car. I honestly don't know much about the whole setup. I want something wired into my car and truck.. so I can use it in both vehicles. I don't want any FM modulated stuff.. I want it wired in. Is this possible? I have a factory radio in my car but I have an Alpine radio I can put in it if I have to... I don't remember if that's Sirius or XM ready. I don't know offhand what's in the truck.. a Sony deck, that's all I know without running out to check. But just saying they're both XM ready, what do I have to buy to get it in both vehicles? Eck, I wish I knew more about the stuff!
91LuminaEuro
I know they have the ability to be hard wired, and the way the guy on the phone described it to me, was using an AUX wire to hook it up to your head unit (factor or aftermarket). I can't remember what plug exactly they said they had. My dad was having issues getting a good signal from his reciever to his Tahoe's radio, and he was going to order the cables and hard wire it, but he just ended up using a tape deck connector. So you would need 2 of those cables, one for each vehicle, and you could either use the same dock and transfer the whole thing from vehicle to vehicle or you could buy 2 docks as well and just switch the reciever from vehicle to vehicle. Oh, and you would need 2 antennas as well.
Addicted2bass
Heres what you should need to add XM. Here is for the Sony: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700XMSON1/XM-Direct-2-Sony-Car-Kit.html?search=sony+xm+radio or This: http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/browseproducts/XM-Direct-XM-Sony-XMDSON110-Adapter.HTML and this: http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3951 For the Alpine: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700XMALP1/XM-Direct-2-Alpine-Car-Kit.html?search=alpine+xm+radio+tuner or This: http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/browseproducts/ALPINE-XM-Direct-XM-Radio-Universal-Tuner-System---XMDALP100.html If you wanted to keep the factory radio in the GP you could use This: http://www.pie.net/pie_store/shopexd.asp?id=45&bc=no or This: http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=91&CategoryID=24 Both of those are just Aux input modules so you will need a seperte XM tuner piece that goes on the dash something like this: As long as the alpine and sony are XM ready you will be able to control the XM right through the radio. Hope that sets you in the right direction.
supreme_style21
Thanks for all the info. Looks like it's going to be more expensive than I wanted it to be to go that route. Maybe I'll have to look into the other few options. I think I saw something that connects in-line with the antenna.
Addicted2bass
Yup you would need a direct fm adapter. Like this: http://www.myradiostore.com/fmmodulators/fm-direct-sa10112.html Thats what youll need if you go with a separate XM tuner, like i posted the picture of above. But once you buy those two things you'll be looking at almost the same amount of money as the direct to the radio pieces. I personally would get the XM direct kits for your alpine and sony. You will be a be able to control everythin g through the radio itself. Much easier to use and a cleaner install.
supreme_style21
Ok then let me throw this out there.. forget the second car install for now. If I get the directFM kit and hook it up to my factory radio, and get one of these for example: http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=11045 Would that be all I need to make it work? Is that thing I posted a tuner for it? Or does it just control a tuner?

Antenna on the front of your dashboard, or along the windshield weatherstripping on the roof, power either through cig. lighter, or wire in a http://www.batteriesareus.com/images/bru14.jpg and hide all the power cords in your dash. To make your XM work through the factory radio you will need that piece, a wired fm modulator and two antenna adapters. Metra part #s are 40-GM10 and 40-GM20. If you want to hardwire the power youll need a female cigarette plug with loose wires on it and just wire it to ignition and ground.
boulevard
Sirius FTW! Not XM! You don't get Howard Stern if you're an XM listener, that cost extra. I know it's Sirius XM now but you get a better package with Sirius unless your a Oprah fan!
