Car won't start please help

Hey guys, I have a 99 Grand Prix GTP with 90k miles. Its been driving great, I parked it earlier today, it was running fine. After sitting for about 5 or 6 hours, I come back, turn the key and it will not start. The car cranks just fine, but does not make ANY attempt to start, not so much as a pop or sputter, just dry cranking.

Its late, its dark, its about to rain, so I'm waiting until tomorrow to start tearing it apart and diagnosing it.

My question is, when I turn the key to on, I THOUGHT I used to be able to hear the fuel pump prime and now I do not, of course I never payed close enough attention to be 100% sure.

Can anyone with a similar car please tell me FOR SURE if you guys can hear the fuel pump prime when you key on? It might help me diagnose the issue.

It seems like if it was a fuel pump though it would run for a minute until it burned all the fuel left over in the lines from when I parked it *shrug*

Any other ideas on stuff to check tomorrow would be great.

Thanks guys

-Mike

Check the fuel cut off switch. Maybe for some reason (you hit a pot hole, slammed the door too hard, slammed the glove compartment closed too hard) that thing got tripped. Also check the fuses. If those things still check out and you still can't hear the pump primw take a shoe, or a board, or something heavy, and smack the fuel tank a few times. Sometimes, if a pump is failing (like the brush might not be touching inside the motor) this can bring it around. I did this a few times on my old Ford Aerostar when the pump in it croaked.

Good luck

Aaron

When my fuel pump went it went from being able to hear it to nothing. If you can't hear it prime its probably gone.

If it is gone, hopefully he doesn't have a full tank of gas. That would suck the big one.

Why? There is a nice access door in the trunk. No tank dropping woot.

Yup that pump is way expensive from a parts store though haha. I had no choice to wait for one .

If you cant hear a GM pump, its bad lol

Yeah grand prix's are a lot easier then other W bodies because of the access panel under the rear seat.

the l67's got the fuel pump resistor too, that could be bad. mine has a thermostat wire in it.

to check pull the passenger headlight and there is a wiring harness, only 2 wires. pull it apart and jump it with a paper clip or something. this is usually the case where it starts and dies a few seconds later. my bet on this one, fuel pump. easy as hell to change though. its a $330 part for a delco pump and module.

When I get off work, im going to pull the pump and test the harness for voltage when I crank the motor. Does anyone know what wire to test for voltage offhand so I don't have to spend hours looking for wiring diagrams?

My main concern is that the car had an aftermarket alarm from when I bought it and I hope that its not an issue with the kill switch for the alarm as I have NO idea how\where thats wired in.

Thanks again guys

Sounds like from the earlier postings it may be the pump. I have an AC Delco NIB thinking that was my problem. Still have it since I expect to need it one day. But, you may be on to something. I've read Technical Service Bulletins that referred to aftermarket remote start systems causing havoc. Don't know about yours though. Hopefully, it's just a fuse. I had one go bad on me. The oil pressure sensor wiring has to be connected if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes, they can pop off. Good luck.

Do any of the other W's have this besides GPs?

I think most 2nd gen's do. Not for sure though.
