hermannm Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Hi i just replace the ac compressor on my 92 cutlass supreme. I put in 2 cans of the redtek r12a. The compressor comes on and gets cold but does not cycle on and off? What could cause this and is this bad for the car/ ac system? Thanks, Matt. Quote
sloick Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 they dont cycle on and off unless pressure switch tells it to, which would mean it had low pressure. yours is working properly. Quote
mfewtrail Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 The compressor in your car is of the "variable displacement" variety and does not cycle. Quote
1990lumina Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Only time it would cycle is WOT it'll cut off. Quote
hermannm Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 Okay good to know. I thought all compressors cycled. How does a variable displacement compressor work? and what does WOT mean (Only time it would cycle is WOT it'll cut off?) Quote
sloick Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 wot throttle means wide open throttle. it kicks the compressor off so it doesnt consume the power youre trying to use. its a great thing to have, i wish alot of other cars did this, meaning 4 cylinders. Quote
