Bryan921SS
1996 Cutlass Supreme 2 Door 3100 V6....been having a Cyl 6 misfire code on and off for the past 4 months. Changed all 6 plugs and put new wires on. The problem went away for over a month, now today it is back. The car started really ruff twice...but then evened out and drove like it always does. Could it be a coil? Car is hot right now so once she cools down I am pulling the #6 plug to see if it is fouled. Any ideas??
Crazy K
what plugs did you put in? could be also be an injection or compression issue, as I understand from teh OBD II system. btw, you could swap two of the coils very easily on that motor to rule out the coils. Bryan921SS
AC Delco plugs, pre-gaped but I checked them anyway. I haven't had a compression test done yet, but I throw fuel injector cleaner in there every time the oil is changed...so I wonder if the injector is dying. I just did the LIM and UIM job a few months ago and it passed a pressure test. Should I get a compression test done on it, or would that be a waste? Crazy K
check the plug's condition do a spark check to see if the wire on six is as strong as any of the other wires. try the coil swap? ohm the injector
Bryan921SS
Thanks I will start with the plug...I don't have to right tools to check the ohm's but I will check the plug and the plug wire. /***EDIT***/ One half of the plug is fouled with black soot and extends down the side of the plug 4-5 threads. The other half is nice and clean, I listened to the injectors and I think the number 6 one isn't making the same sound as the other two front injectors. tunerlover3
Then look up the ohm specs from a manual and ohm out the injector. If it doesnt sound right, most likely is not firing right.
