tornado_735
Either get a gasket, or use the Black gasket maker. Worked great on the intake of my Land Rover.
mra32
thats what a brand new gasket looks like. They are blue and brown cork, if you get the ones from felpro
SrMichi
thats what a brand new gasket looks like. They are blue and brown cork, if you get the ones from felpro yeah previous owner changed the water pump. gave me all the paper work from the shop. i guessing those cork ones are bad right? can i get better one? mra32
My original cork one lasted over 80,000 miles and 17 years of mostly city driving. I questioned my new one it being cork, but figured it should last. This is the only one that Autozone had, after checking 2 other parts stores and coming up empty handed. Is that oil though? Or is it rusty water?
GP4U2NV
mine wasnt a failure of the gasket. It was a failure of the seals on the shaft that went into the pump.
SrMichi
Is that oil though? Or is it rusty water? i dont know i try wiping but did not come out. i scraped some off with my finger nail and it kind of sticky. open the rad cap and it was just coolent. Edit: it does look like it was tighten way too tight.
mra32
hmm thats weird...if you think the gasket is damaged from over tightening, new ones are like $2 and like a 10 minute job. That brown stuff is weird though. I'd imagine your coolant system might need some service after stagnating in a sitting car like yours was for a while, if you havent done some already
SrMichi
i did change it last year. i changed the coolent and changed the low coolent sensor becuase the light would turn on during acceleration and also because the sensor was covered in some white shit and when i try cleaning it the sensor piece broke off
SrMichi
well i changed it and coolent look okay. the only bad thing is that i could only find a all cork one with no metal washer on the holes so i will order one from rock auto together with my ball joints. w-bodys_are_the_best
I got the one for my cav from the dealer for $3 IIRC, they have a big metal washer in the center hole and the other 2 to prevent failure from over-tightening.
