DOHCRagtopguy
Wifey's 92 Euro Sedan has developed a problem. It started stalling out and wouldn't run until cooled off. Had it towed yesterday. Wouldn't start at all. This AM fired right up cold. Ran for awhile, seemed fine. Tried to start it again, no dice. Getting good fuel pressure, weak-ass spark. Yellow, not hot blue as normal. Hit it with some Starting Fluid (Ether), fires, then dies. My question is this: Does the ignition module control the intensity or step-up in voltage for the spark? I would suspect a coil, but they all show the same crappy spark. Before I have to tear the module off and get it tested, I would like to know if you guys think I am reading this right. Thanks for your help.
Guest Anonymous
Sounds like ignition module to me. My TGP was doing the same thing a few months ago.
DOHCRagtopguy
Some more stuff on this thing: Downloaded 3 codes: 23 (Intake Air Temp Sensor), 32 (EGR), 43 (Knock Sensor). Also, it has fairly new wires and plugs, so that ain't it. C'mon guys, toss some ideas out here for me. Now the damn thing won't turn over, but shows 12.1 Volts. Slade901
Well.. check the Crankshaft Position Sensor wiring and make sure the wirings are not touching with each other or the ground or loose connection. Also, check othe sensors for possible grounding or loose connections.
Robby1870
Yeah, my crank sensor wire was grounding out to the block, and it would sometimes run, sometimes not. If you are gettin weak/no spark, then I bet its the crank sensor or ICM Robby
DOHCRagtopguy
I was thinking crank sensor also, but if it was bad, why do I get a weak spark instead of none? The signal to fire is going thru. I thought they were a work/don't work type of deal. Those codes don't indicate anything ignition related to me. Robby1870
if the wire for the crank sensor is touching the block, it will short out, and cause a weak or no spark condition. Also, a bad crank sensor will sometimes throw a knock sensor code Robby
WillR2K
dayum i had the same problem, where is the crank sensor thingy located??? thanks
DOHCRagtopguy
It's located in a pain in the ass location. Bottom center in the back of the block. I've decided this is the first thing I'm gonna change on the Euro Sedan. I just hope I don't break the damn thing getting it out.
