Bryan921SS
96 Cutlass Supreme 3100....searched around but didn't get a good enough answer yet..... After the car is turned off there are 2-6 bubbles that pop up in the coolant overflow tank. The LIM's where just replaced new thermo etc... The car is not overheating, nor does it get hot. The oil is nice and clean and so is the coolant. I have been reading online and have gathered it is either a head gasket or a hose and or rad cap issue. The hoses look great with no leaks etc. The head gaskets should be good to go (felpro) but not sure. I haven't had it anywhere for this issue yet, it started Thursday, but was wondering if the rad cap could be the cause....thanks everyone. ns87
It's deff air getting into the system some how. Maybe it is something simple like a radiator cap. Was the coolant bled properly after the LIM was done?
Bryan921SS
I have no clue, the shop said they do 5 of these jobs a week. So i assume they would bleed the system properly. But maybe I should take it to the dealer and have them do a flush/bleed. I am going to start with the cap...only like 5-8 dollars depending on where you go...should I go with a part store (Autozone/Napa) or should I wait until Monday and get one from the dealer? Crazy K
could be a few bubbles coming to the surface of the coolant. replace the radiator cap and watch your temp gauge, and inspect coolant level when cold regularly... watching for any further sign of irregularity. it might be fine if you do that. Regal_GS_1989
Do the bubbles seem constant, or more random. If it is more random, I would keep an eye on it for the next few days. There could very likely be a couple air pockets that are still trying to escape from the cooling system, especially if there was work done recently. Bryan921SS
The bubbles happen everytime the car is turned off after running for 45+ minutes. I went to change the rad cap on Saturday night, but the sprinklers in my apartment complex turned on and I got soaked....they came on at midnight and I gave up after waiting for over an hour for them to turn off. The next day(Sunday) the bubbles didn't happen....so I am wondering if the cap wasn't installed correctly...either way I will replace the cap when I get home in a few minutes and I will go from there. I hope it isn't a Head Gasket, we just put 2K + in the car The LIM was done in late April or early May, not 100% sure, so there could still be bubbles in there...The cooling system on this Cutlass has always been a headache....
