twalt13
looking into getting a 1996 special edition Grand Prix (read GTP) Tranny / Torque Converter are shot. I just happen to have a 00 4t60E with 30K on it sitting at my house. Will this newer tranny swap right in? Will the 3800 torque converter work with the 3.4 DOHC. Symptoms in 1996 car are - Engine revs to 2000 rpm before it starts to move. - No kick down even @ 50 MPH. - Fluid is clear (will do a flush first of course) 128K on odometer. - Even with manual shifting tranny seems like a dog. Thanks for the help.

twalt13
Tranny or Torque converter? Why?
Brian P
Shouldn't that be a 4T65e? The only 4T60e's left around were suposedly in '00-01 Luminas, and even that is skeptical at best.
Crazy K
00 and 01 luminas had the 4t65e: http://dtcc.cz28.com/transmission/index.htm furthermore, the stall speeds of the converter for a 3800 4t60e and the gear ratios are vastly different. 2060 stall vs a probable 1895 stall. 3.43 vs a probable 3.06 Final drive ratio. stick a wrong tranny in and you're probable to have the PCM leave it in limp mode all the time. kuntzie
wirning is completely different, axles are different spline count, an 00 trans is all electronic while your 96 is vac OD.. the gearing wouldnt make a difference just different rpms on the hiway. Crazy K
FAIL!!!! I did NOT mention adding a tranny cooler in this thread. Tranny coolers help "mildly worn" transmissions perform better and last longer, not transmissions that have already grenaded.
