There is no provision for the leaf spring on the knuckle like the first gen. so yes, you cannot use the gen II knuckle on a gen I unless you have done coilovers. However.... if you have a gen 1.5.... you might be one to something. also... with some work... you could probably install the superior drum-in-hat parking brake design as part of the upgrade.
