PanamaZ34
Apologies if this has been asked before. Although I planned on retaining the original wheels for a while, I will need to buy a full set of new tyres for the Z34 fairly soon and don't want to waste money getting a set that then couldn't be switched to new wheels. Having seen some great looking red/black wheels (which would look perfect on my black Z34) on line, I'm now thinking about new wheels later this year, but none of the wheels I have seen appear to be a straight swap (most wouldn't even fit without major surgery). I don't want to have to flare the wheelarches and I don't want skinny tyres (given the standard of the roads here in Panama I want decent sized tyres to give a bit more of a cushion!), plus, as stated, I'd rather not waste money on a set of tyres for the stock wheels that then won't fit the new ones. Does anyone know of any red/black wheels that would be straight swap? Thanks, Jim
Crazy K
can you paint the ones you currently have?
PanamaZ34
It might come to that, but I would love a new set, the existing ones are a little scratched up and dented (especially the rears) ....... and the better-half offered to get them as an Xmas present
Crazy K
well... if you mean curb rash... You could still treat it to the same treatment that people do to crosslaces. basically sand it smooth... Question: can you get powdercoating done where you live? You could remove the tires and stripe the current finish and smooth the rough spots.. and have them power coated...

PanamaZ34
Thanks guys. Guess I have 3 choices; 1) Polish up the stock wheels and just keep them on (and see if the wife will run to a respray for Xmas instead ); 2) Have the stock wheels painted (I'm sure that there must be a powder coating firm somewhere here in Panama, if not I'll just have to sort something out myself); or 3) Accept that I'm going to have to settle for a rougher ride and get something like the 17" XXR 006s (in black and red) that caught my eye (and claim to be straight swaps for stock wheels on a Lumina) and lower profile tyres, even if I have to wait a few months until I can afford the (second set of) new rubber for them. In the meantime, I'll just keep looking .......... unless I change my mind and decide on gold X-laces and changing the red coachlines to gold to match LOL
oldscsc
If you want to keep 16's on the cheap, look around at first generation W's. Any wheels that came stock on a first gen will fit your car. Also, second gen wheels can look pretty sharp on first gens, although spacers are necessary to run them.
