Guest TurboSedan
i gotta lot done last night, i think the only thing i need to do today is pull the passenger side axle (already did the other) and drain the tranny, undo the tranny and lower motor mount bolts, exhaust bolts, and then it's time to hook it up to the cherry picker and yank. we'll be taking digi-pics..... my original plan was to just swap the tranny and drive it up to Gillette (250 miles north) and then swap the engine & tranny out again since my TGP engine is sitting up in iTurbo's garage. now my friend is offering to go up with his truck and pick up the engine so i can install the Turbo engine and the new 282 all at once.....either that or my mom has a van i might be able to borrow. hopefully that works out and save me from swapping engines/tranny's twice in a row.... i also have a big 55 gallon fish tank setup (w/mahogany stand/canopy....way too big to fit in the car) that i need to move down. but yeah everything is coming along good and i haven't run into any problems...oh yeah i accideantally seperated the drivers side axle when pulling it out (stupid slide hammer...) but i have a new boot kit from Brian89gp that i'll just use. well anyway time to go wrenching.......later joshua
Guest TurboSedan
ok time to rent a cherry picker i've decided to just replace the tranny right now, and re-use my good n/a 3.1. i don't have a custom chip for the 5-speed yet, i still need a custom turbo support bracket, and i'd have to re-do alot of gaskets & seals. it would take alot more time to get the CS on the road and alot more money. driving iTurbo's Shelby Lancer is cool, but i REALLY want to drive my own CS again! so i'm just going to replace the tranny, add a new TO bearing and reuse the 50,000 mile clutch, and replace any gaskets that are leaking. i'm not too concerned about reusing the 50,000 mile clutch since the TGP engine will be going in soon after and will be getting a new clutch (any reccomendations welcome btw). i'm hoping to have the engine out Monday (can't rent a picker till then), and then i'll be swapping the clutch on, installing a new TO bearing, and bolting up the tranny. Tuesday i'm hoping to get the engine in the car, and then it's just a matter of hooking & bolting everything back up and filling with fluids. so.....hopefully within the week it'll be on the road! joshua
Guest TurboSedan
oh yeah i accideantally seperated the drivers side axle when pulling it out (stupid slide hammer...) but i have a new boot kit from Brian89gp that i'll just use. well anyway time to go wrenching.......laterjoshua today i fixed the axle, which was fine and didn't need the new boot or new grease so i'll just save it for later. i went to a shop here in Laramie and the guy was nice enough to show me how to reboot it, and let me use his special pliers (not sure what they call them?) so i could put a new band clamp on the boot. only took a couple minutes and all free of charge too on the downside i have no garage anymore, cuz my sister is unexpectedly moving this week so i have to put the hood back on (and i haven't even pulled the engine/tranny yet :? ). so now i have to tow it to my house which is only 1 block away. Stupid Question Time: do i have to put the axles back in before i pull it anywhere, or can i just bolt up the lower ball joint, and put the wheels back on and tow it? would that be bad on the hubs? i plan on getting new hub/wheel bearings soon anyway. i can put the axles in no problem if i need to, but if it saves me some work that would be cool. TIA! joshua

Guest TurboSedan
cool, thanks for the reply! i'm only towing it 1 block anyway, so i'm just going to reattatch the lower ball joint and leave the axles out. next i'm going to look into renting a storage garage here, and hopefully i can get this swap over with soon :!: joshua
Justin
Bad idea. A tech here at ford forgot to tighten the large nut on the cv axle, the hub seperated, left him stranded on the road. Get yourself 2 large bolts, some bigass washers, and just tighten the 2 halves of the hubs together. One block, yeah, I might take a chance, but I've seen what can happen. This guy got onto the road, to the next building, and called the wrecker.
