Addicted2bass
A couple days ago i noticed that the oil pressure in the TGP is way lower than it should be. When i first start the car its normal, but as im driving it drops down bit by bit. After driving for like 10 minutes or so the oil pressure will be around 20ish psi on the gauge when at idle. When im driving it will be a little higher. Highest it goes is like 40psi when i hammer on it.
RobertISaar
thats not all that odd... and have you checked it against a real guage?
Addicted2bass
Normally it would be in the 30-60psi range, its never been this low before. I havent tested it with another gauge, i have nothing to test it with.

Not real knowledgeable when it comes to engines but yes, when cars are ready for an oil change their oil pressure will drop. Also, this can happen when you're low on oil. In my dad's truck oil PSI had dropped 10-15 PSI...it was just low on oil.
Addicted2bass
I just changed the oil a little over a week ago. Mobil 1 10w30 and a Fram filter (they didnt have any AC Delco filters which is what i usually use). I bought a AC filter today and put that on but it didnt make a difference, oil is full to. It leaks a small amount of oil, but never enough that ive had to ad any before changes.

Addicted2bass
Yup synthetic. Hopefully its nothing, but its making me a little nervous. Its always something on this car lol.
mfewtrail
Autozone, etc. should rent oil pressure testers, and you'll get your money back upon returning it. Quite a few TGP owners have had oil pressure sensors flake out causing low/irregular, or no readings before... EDIT: Your car isn't hard to start when it sits for a while is it? Stock injectors often leak and prolonged driving with gas diluted oil will reduce pressure as wear increases.

I changed the one out on my 87 park ave that i had. I had to take it to my buddys shop though cuz i didnt have a big enough socket (it was like a 22m or bigger) or a long enough extension. The car starts fine, no problems there. It has the yellow top injectors, roughly 3 years old.
mfewtrail
The sensor shouldn't be that hard to remove, even though the TGP has less space than a regular 3.1 down there. You might have to remove the oil filter and maybe the oil cooler lines, etc....I can't say for sure though as I haven't looked at my car in a while. If you remove the sensor, I would rent a oil pressure tester as it would only take you a few more seconds to hook it up and get a better idea of what it's reading since stock instrumentation usually isn't the most accurate... GOT2B GM
I made my own custom extra deep socket for removing that oil pressure sensor, took a deep socket, cut it in half and extended it with a piece of pipe, the welded it all together. Works great.

Works great. nice!!! they make specific oil sensor sockets. but at the dayton meet we used a 27mm impact socket to change the one on gp1138s car, though it was a short switch type. technically, iirc it was a 26mm size sensor, but the closets size was the 27.
