Scott205 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Ok, I bought some incredible Motegi Rims for my 2005 Honda Accord, but my wife and I decided having 4 cars for 2 of us was too much, so we just sold the Accord... Now I have the rims in the garage but when I looked at putting them on my Cutlass.. they wouldn't clear the brake calipers. Is it possible to put a spacer in and not bend anything or have to get longer lugs? The Motegis are the SP10 Hyper Black (series 2747), part: 27477717 size: 17x7 offset: 40 Backside 5 1/2 Wieght: 17.2lbs Looks like rims that fit the car have a backspacing of atleast 5.86 to around 6. Just wondering if anyone would know what minium for this car is , the old rims are the 10 hole alloy 16x6.5 wheels that must weigh 25 lbs... Quote
1990lumina Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 To safely use spacers you should replace the studs with longer ones. Quote
BXX Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Just sell them and buy a set specific to the Cutlass.. The rims for the Honda dont have the proper bore diameter, not to mention you would have to get Honda lugnuts to fit your Cutlass. Why, simple.. Our cars like most domestics use Tapered Seat lugnuts, Honda used Conical... You cannot interchange unless you want the wheel to fly off while driving.. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Your offset is already spot on for a Cutlass. If you add spacers, you'll reduce the offset. You could use a 3-5mm spacer and it'll probably still look fine and you shouldn't need longer lugs. Much more than that, and you'll need longer lugs. You could take an angle grinder with a cutting wheel and cut the caliper brackets down to assist fitment, maybe 5-7mm or so. There is plenty of metal and the brakes will be fine, I've been running cut brackets for over a decade now. My wheels required both cutting 5-7mm off the brackets AND 5mm spacers. Bore diameter doesn't matter as long as it's larger, most aftermarket wheels don't have the proper bore. They'll be lugcentric. All you need to make sure of is to not to set the car down on the ground until after all the lugs are tightened and you MUST retorque after the first 100-miles or so. I don't see why lugnuts would be a problem. Those wheels are universal fit with GM applications too. Quote
Breakdown Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 To safely use spacers you should replace the studs with longer ones. Depends on how many you're getting on there. Rule of thumb, seven turns on each lug is safe. Less is potentially unsafe. Quote
LuminaPower92 Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I have motegi mr4s on my Lumina. Like Shaun said I had to do the same with the grinder but worth it. Quote
