rockfangd
HI everyone i have a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue 3.5l It has 129000 miles and an aweful top end noise. If you rev it up it sounds a little better but as the rpms settle it sounds like there is something bouncing around inside I might also add that there is blue smoke coming from the exhaust and the oil is about .5 quart low. The low oil pressure light does not flicker or come on other than on the test cycle when you turn the key on. I wish i knew how to post a video of how it sounds because i am not sure if this is fixable or no good. It still has alot of power
89SupremeCutty
the blue smoke sounds like bad valve guides or bad rings.
IRONDOG442
I am betting you have a broken valve spring. Also sometimes a spun rod bearing can sound like its coming from the top end of these motors!
mrl390
If it were a spun rod bearing the sound would get worse when he revved it. He said it gets better. Not a rod bearing.
rockfangd
Does anyone know how to transfer a video from a lg decoy onto photobucket or even a computer. I took out my micro SD card and pulled up my music and pics but i cannot play the videos Damn techology shit Ok so i kind of figured out why it doesnt work. The files are 3G2 and a player or convertor is needed to play the files. They want like 30.00 lol. I will try something else tomorrow
rockfangd
I am betting you have a broken valve spring. can this be repaired without alot of work, also would this cause the engine to burn oil and blow blue smoke?
IRONDOG442
depends on which spring is broken, you will need a valve retaining tool (or a compression checking fitting hooked up to an air compressor and a valve spring compressor specifically for the LX-5, if its the middle one you can use a flat blade screw driver under the casting for the coil pack ground to compress the spring. Crazy K
I've used the nylon rope trick... where you feed some into the plug hole and then manually turn the engine to move the piston up to press the rope against the bottom of the valves... IRONDOG442
thats impossible with this engine the spark plug hole to acces the combustion chamber is like 12 inches below the top of the valve cover

W30post
Have you looked at all the accessories? I had a bearing go bad in the AC clutch pulley and it did something similar. The belt tensioner was stuck so the AC bearing took up the bouncing belt.
rockfangd
no ufortunately this is internal, I had 2000 GA 3400HO this year that sounded like the top end was going but it turned out to be that the waterpump broke Can anyone tell me if the WP is drivebelt driven or not on this 3.5? IRONDOG442
Yeah it is driven by the drive belt!
rockfangd
well it is fixed by replacement of the engine
IRONDOG442
Yeah another LX5 swapper on the board!!! How did you like that backwards bellhousing bolt?
rockfangd
lol it was really easy, we let someone else do it. The 6.5L turbo diesel has a backwards bellhousing bolt that is a Huge PITA so one could only imagine
