1990lumina
Are you talking about Freeze Frame Data? Or the "flight recorder" style of data?
slick
Sounds like the flight recorder style. Freeze frame just keeps the data at the time the code was set. Jeff, what are you wanting/needing this for?

So your talking about last trip data recording.. Im pretty sure that wasnt available until newer vehicles running the CAN datastreams... kuntzie
yes sort of like the "last trip data" i guess... i got a SES code on my interforce but no code on the dash (someone deleted it) but want to know what caused it. im only running 4psi right now, 0*knock and it runs perfect, oil pressure is good, clean and full ect... anyways, i took the car in to get some work done to it, and the motor is now ticking, everything above is good like i said.. its to my belief that someone took it out and over reved the shit out of it, i never drove the car really hard yet and the motor only has 25k kms on everything (rebuilt) it would have had issues before this if it was a bad rebuild regardless. i went to go to the car and a guy that worked there was asking me about the car in not so normal ways, to hard to explain, but makes since now.. i got to the car and its ticking/ knocking like a bitch, i FUCKING LOST IT ON THEM! so im in a huge battle with them now and upon further inspection i realized the sure signs of driving a car hard.... i washed the car next door and then broght it over, it was spotless 100% as it usually is, there was brake dust on my brand new rims, my pads only let of dust with HARD stops, otherwise it would be noticeable for a few days or more. see my problem? im ready to kill someone... PS. the cars revlimiter is 6200 rpms BUT droping a gear and overreving will make the rpms go above that... my assumption is that someone went into 1st instead of 3rd and overreved the shit out of my built bottom end. kuntzie
so im getting everyhting paid for but try to diaognose the problem... compression is great, car drive fine, and if i put it in 5th at 60km/h (~35mph) the sound is very faint.. so basically under load at low rpms is good... at idle is makes all sorts of noises, idle is good, oil is good, sounds like something top end but i dont think it is. if it was a valve or something compression/ idle wouldnt be good any suggestions? Regal_GS_1989
IIRC, this place this data would be present in your car would be the airbag module, and that data is only stored if the airbags were deployed. Also, i think you may need to upload a video for us to get an understanding of what it happening.
kuntzie
heres a quick video... http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/kuntzie_86/?action=view¤t=engine.flv i can feel the "knock" in the upperintake aswell.. i confirmed by touching it at the end... also the idle does drop in the viedo, that is normal with startup. 89SupremeCutty
i'd pull the valve covers and see if anything is different. from the video it sounds like something in the valve train.
Sidewinder
WHAT! Seriously this is the most lame thing I have heard in awhile. Been following the build progress since you posted on MyMonte. You have running videos from before don't you? Which means you have proof that it was running fine before bringing it in there! I would be furious too, hell I'm mad and it isn't even my car! Part of that may be because the shop I was at was trying to screw me and was charging me almost double what others were charging and were clearly trying to screw me. I'm sick of shops being retarded because they think they can and people won't say anything. If I take my car in anywhere after my build for anything I'm staying as long as my car is there, or at the very least making sure I have prior evidence in cause the screw around. I really hope everything works out, I want to see this car run full bore!
LukeZ34
Def. sounds like something in the valvetrain
Brian P
use a stethoscope and touch it to each valve cover to see where it's loudest, and pull that cover. Hopefully it's something simple.
BXX
Yeah, hopefully its something simple like a rocker coming loose or a slightly bent pushrod.. Yah know, the easy fixes
kuntzie
so i took off the valve cover after making a homemade stethoscope... sont know if i mentioned before but compression was perfect so it narrowed it down alot.. clyinder 1, bent pushrod + broken valve spring are confirmed... thinking thats itbut unable to tell at this time this is on the intake side of cylinder 1... also these are aftermart pushrods, and rockers (modded 1.9s) ad stock valve springs. Addicted to eaton
They replaced the motor IIRC.
kuntzie
replaced one piston, then 2 more went, there was no lock pin on the piston wrist pins when the guy put the low compresion pistons in
