GnatGoSplat Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 I'm trying to find spray paint that closely matches the 88-94 Cutlass dash bezel (it's the same color as the interior door handle plates too). It's a metallic gray, but none of the DupliColor stuff at Pep Boys appears to be a close match. They are all a cooler shade of gray. Anyone know of anything that's real close? I called a paint shop and they want $16 for a custom-mixed spray can. Does that sound reasonable? Quote
jake91 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 yes very resonable. i was geting quotes for 30+ around here for custom mixed paint Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 10, 2009 Author Report Posted June 10, 2009 Sounds good, I'll have to drop by there and see if they can mix one up for me. It wouldn't surprise me if he under-quoted... he seemed really annoyed with my questions like I was pissing in his Cheerios or something. I don't know what it is about small businesses and their employees' attitudes. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 which bezel do you need? Ive got a few spares in good shape if were talking about the same ones. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I don't actually need a bezel. I have one I did some cutting and sanding on so now I need to paint it. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Doesn't the bezel say "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY?" Small businesses probably get bullshit calls alot maybe that's why? But I agree that's a very good price. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 Yep, it does say "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY". I did some modding on the right side and will probably just mask off the entire left half of the cluster and try to blend the paint. This would probably look bad if it were gloss, but I think it could work since the finish is more of a satin/matte which hides imperfections better. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 So you painted half before, and you are trying to blend the rest? Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 No, I only modded one half (well, more like 1/3rd) so that's the side I need to repaint. Gonna leave the rest the original color. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Then why not just get a replacement instead of messing with getting it to blend? Quote
slick Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Then why not just get a replacement instead of messing with getting it to blend? Ummm.... Tony, your not understanding what he's wanting to do. He modified a dash bezel, most likely for a project, and now that he is finished, wants to paint it to match the OEM color. He never said that he painted 1/2 already. He's said 2-3 times now that he's modified this bezel and wants to paint it. Jesus. Quote

I was under the impression the "modification" was the painting. I didn't know he physically altered it. EXCUSE ME, for not being able to visualize someones text. EDIT: And I never said that I thought he was blending it to a part that he already painted. I thought he was just blending it back to OEM. See how easy it is to misinterpret text? Quote
slick Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 No, actually, I'm still quite confused on how you got this all mixed up. He said he had a dash bezel he modified, and wanted to paint it to match OEM color. Anyways, it's over. Shawn, good luck. Quote
Venom Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 What about SEM paint? They have stock GM interior colors since SEM brand paint is what GM used for their interiors. http://www.vinylprosem.com/page/1285420 comes in aeresol cans and Ive seen it as cheap as $6.00 a can online. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check out their product line. That site looks like mostly flexible interior paints for vinyl and leather. I need something for hard plastic, but they might have a product for that. Quote
Venom Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Yeah that was just a quick link to point you in the right direction. I got the info from v6z24.com where someone was having problems finding the right color interior panels and dash, so he used some of this paint and you couldnt tell a difference since the paint comes in stock GM interior colors.
