2.8 hybrid turbo complete vid

Finally finished up my 88 2.8 top end swap. I had the TGP setup on there last year, decided that I wanted to go with the 3400 top end, and toss in an Engle Cam while it was out. Here's a vid of it at idle. You can see the 3" mandrel bent exhaust I built. Not finished with the exhaust yet, but I got tired of not driving it. It's 3" form the turbo to behind the rear axle. Still have to finish off the Y pipe and tips, but that'll happen. I'll post more vids once I get it tuned and can run WOT. I have tons of pictures and I'm going to start a write up soon.

Idle Vid.

Damn that's cool as hell. We certainly need a write-up on that sometime. Do the turbo manifolds from the TGP hook up to the 3400 heads or is that setup completely custom? Do you plan on a CAI? It'd probably help out the intercooler as it's gonna be sucking a lot of hot air at that spot.

Do the turbo manifolds from the TGP hook up to the 3400 heads?

I want to know this TOO!

I read on another site that the 3x00 exhaust manifolds will work on a 3.1/2.8 motor... this is just the reverse... sooooo.......... answer, please?

You have to grind out the 3.1 manifolds to fit the 3400 port shape. It's not bad, probably took me an hour to do both. I used my die grinder with a carbide burr and cut right through it. Here's a pic:

You can see I had the template backwards on one of them and had to correct it. Overall, not hard.

Who is doing your tuning ?

I am doing my own tuning.

Niceee, is it possible to pull off a top swap without fully removing the engine? A mechanic I spoke with told me he used to just throw a tranny jack under it, pull some of the mounts and tilt it.

5 spd to boot!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. I've heard that the auto makes it impossible to fit a 3" downpipe. Not having seen one up close, I can't say for sure.

I have a 2.5 dp and yes, it would be do-able, but, extremely tight. would have to be perfect with no movement to keep from hitting the steering rack or firewall.

Yeah, I was kinda salty about the CobraCDR(sp?) situation. He had an ebay auction for the TGP turbo set up he had and I bid on it and won. He made up some story about how the turbine blades were cracked or something and refused to sell it to me. I told him I'd pay for everything and he could even keep the turbo, since I already had most of my stuff, just needed odds and ends to get it running and wanted duplicates. He then kept it for himself and put it on a nearly identical car (DIC is the only real difference I know of). At the time I was still piecing my car together. We both got the 2.8 turbo set up running within a few months of each other.

Ken does seem to have a strange way of doing business.

Ahh ok gotcha! That's a pretty crappy way of doing business

that was before he put the stuff on his car? (mine now)

your car looks just like my car in that vid. only the 3400 in mine is not a hybrid and the turbo isn't in there yet.

I got a 3" ss mandrel exhaust for it too but its still in the box sitting next to the car.

A 2.5" DP has plenty of room... Just yeah, a 3" might be very tight..
