My New Custom Downpipe.... UPDATE!! Larger Catback and New Tips!! w/ PICS!!

My car just turned 175K and my cat was showing its ugly face more and more... The hotter it gets, the more power I loose... Quite a simple formula to piss you off on the highway..

Time for a new cat, but why stop there?? How abouts a nice mandrel bent 2.5" downpipe :burnout:

Crappy cell pics from when I was changing my oil on the lift at work today.

Cost me $200 from Juds Discount Muffler and Brake... Sounds like a crappy hillbilly shop but after seeing this work, he knows how to do some exhaust work!!!

The cat is a Catco 2.5" in/out unit, even made in the good ol USA!! :high5:

Right now I have a 2.25" catback on there, but prolly before I go to the dayton meet, I will have him redo it in 2.5" to a proper Y piece and the 2.25" to my dual Flowmasters. He quoted me about $125-$175 on that and its mandrel bent as well..

Oh, and the difference???... hehehe, fricken night and day!!! not only in the low range, but it pulls sooo much harder to 6000rpm than the car ever has.. Now since I can use my upper rpms again, time to retune my shift points when I install my larger injectors this week..

Hell, my car even idles smoother now and has a nicer sound... And its gotten louder too

And a new update to this!!!

Just got back from the exhaust shop, ditched the crappy bent 2.25" that had a ypipe where one pipe was welding onto the other. Went with a 2.5" from the cat to a magnaflow Y section, then 2.25 out to my Flowmasters. He hooked me up with some awseme polished stainless Magnaflow tips as well!! All mandrel bent as well.

Heres a couple quick pics.. My cell phone as my real camera needs batteries again..

On the lift during the work.. Jud does excellent work!! His welds are quite amazing too!!

And the finished job... Those tips give me a huge stiffy!!

The 2.5" downpipe and 2.5" Catco cat cost me $200 installed

The 2.5" Catback w/ custom hangers, Magnaflow Y section, and 2 Magnaflow tips cost $225

the downpipe was a huge huge difference..

I noticed a more smoother idle and a slighty better powerbank with the rest of the exhaust.. It isnt soo loud inside the car now since it has tips on it... Does sound even better, more of a smoother type tone..

Yeah, you'll have to hear it!! Kinda hard to describe otherwise

I really need to get my L36 injectors in and carbon clean and retune so I can come hunting your Adam  But I have a huge headache...

Who knows what GM was thinking putting on that stock straw of a dp. it's really quite sad

Mine isn't as nice as yours. it's actually quite hideous where it meets up with the rest of the pipe. but, it has held so far.

I'm curious to see what my mileage will be on the hwy. with my totally stock setup, i'd get 28 @ 80 easy. i hope it's more now

I drove to Mansfield and back to Brunswick the other night after getting just the downpipe done and got an avg of a little shy of 28mpg.. I I did an average speed of about 72... Not cruise control either and down 71 is very hilly...

I wonder what I can get now going to Dayton...
