mitalie
I have a '95 Cutlass convertible with a 3.4L. It cranks fine when cold, but VERY slow when hot. Any suggestions anyone? I have been told three things. 1. Thermal blanket for starter - Starter is less then 1/8" from oil pan which makes this impossible. 2. Starter problem. 3. Battery - I took the battery to Autozone and they said it is fine, however I don't think they put it under a load condition with the handheld device he checked it with. 95cutty96
Check the resistance that the starter is pulling while cranking had that same problem and had to replace the starter
RobertISaar
as far as battery testing, they either did it with a multimeter (wrong) or they had a handheld device similar to a blow dryer in that it heats up an element and measures the voltage of the battery while its under load(the correct method)
stevegasm
If you have a multimeter handy, try checking how much voltage there is while the engine is running. The alternator could be overcharging the battery, leaving it with no crank amps while it's hot. Worth a gander
