Garrett Powered Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 I keep hearing 282 getrag all the time so thats what I thought was in my car but I went down to the dealership to pick up my VSS that I ordered for it and they told me it's a muncie 282 in the w-body and I looked at the screen and saw it for myself. Andrew Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 i believe it was a joint venture by both companies. Quote
jman093 Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Designed by Getrag. Manufactured by Muncie. 284 is the same way. Quote
Garrett Powered Posted May 30, 2009 Author Report Posted May 30, 2009 he was telling me it wasn't a getrag at all thats why it threw me off. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Muncie is just the name of the town that the manufacturing plant is in IIRC, so it gets picked up as a semi-official nickname. '91-'93 282s from other car-lines are more oftened referred to as Muncies than ours for some reason. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Muncie is the name of the town and the manufacture. There are other 282's that where built in Muncie but designed by other parts of GM (including Isuzu). IIRC, those units aren't anywhere near as strong or robust as Getrag units. Quote
