jdcutty Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 And ideas on a cause? Does anyone know of an electical difference between 93 and 94 that might cause this? I know that's when they switched to obd 1.5 but everything from the firewall forward is from the 94. Also open to suggestions on how to remedy this problem. Tryin to revive my dads z after 3 years of sittin. Quote

White93z34 Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 If you want to convert back to OBD1 I have a entire harness and PCM from a 92/93. Quote
Crazy K Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 wait... is it actually switched... or did they just plug the WRONG harness in? Quote
jdcutty Posted May 22, 2009 Author Report Posted May 22, 2009 The harness is correct for the motor. If you connect the battery cable you can hear the injectors kick on. Quote
RobertISaar Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 The harness is correct for the motor. If you connect the battery cable you can hear the injectors kick on. the fuel pump is kicking on as well? Quote

Crazy K Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 The harness is correct for the motor. If you connect the battery cable you can hear the injectors kick on. THAT MEANS NOTHING. Is there a 94 harness on a 94 motor hooked to a 93 C100 connector? that = MASSIVE FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What PCM is hooked to it now? 94 or 93? Unless you are trying to CONVERT TO OBD 1.5... (WTF WOULD YOU DO THAT???) You should be using the 93 harness with the 93 PCM. and YES, you can use the 94 motor... but you need the 93 harness!!!! Quote
jdcutty Posted May 22, 2009 Author Report Posted May 22, 2009 That is the answer I was looking for. Thanks ken. Guess I'm off to chase down some sensors. Quote
Crazy K Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 sorry to be rash... but you made my head hurt! good luck, and keep us posted if there are further issues. Quote
jdcutty Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 will do. we just looked at the 93 harness and found a couple of cut wires so we gotta figure out where they go. should be all sorts of fun. Quote
Crazy K Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 well... the 93 and 94 harness are similar... except: front cam sensor crank sensor in timing cover individually fired injectors vs batch fired (number and arrangement of wires) C100 connector (the firewall connector, btw) PCM wiring and connectors. alternator. in general, you could get some idea of what to do and repair from the 94's harness. Quote
jdcutty Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 so what do you suggest as far as wiring this thing up? Quote
Crazy K Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 stick with the 93 harness, which can be installed on the 94 engine... make all repairs necessary to the 93 harness. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Goto a j/y, pull an intact 93 LQ1 harness, use 93 sensors, and a 93 ECM Quote
jdcutty Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 the one we have is complete minus 3 or 4 wires. shouldnt be too much of a problem. we are just gonna pull the motor back out and rewire it. Quote
RobertISaar Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 we are just gonna pull the motor back out and rewire it. good call, much less stuff to cut your hand on that way, and much less frustration Quote
