MommyTaz022200
I put my new engine in, and it won't start. There is no gas getting into the cylinders and no spark. Battery is charged, fuel is getting into the fuel rod, the injectors are all hooked up to the power plugs. Anyone have a clue????????? MommyTaz022200
I think I figured it out. I hooked up my alarm/remote start too. The wires to the injectors are not getting power (checked with the volts meter) The book to install my alarm is about the shittiest directions I've seen in my life. I hooked some of the alarm wires into the pink wire from the ignition. Apparently that's the fuel injector wire, so were trying to see if when it's unhooked from the alarm wires it starts. My husband's working on it now. I'm trying to do my homework. Hopefully it works, I miss driving my car. Especially since I've had it 2 months almost and only drove it like 500 miles. I'll let you know if this fixes it.
MommyTaz022200
ok, that didn't work. Are you serious about coming over? My husband says he has no clue and I don't know either, so if you want to come over I'll take any help I can get. (I am broke tho)
Slade901
Does the engine even turn over when started ie (turned over by the starter)? Is that the same type/brand of engine being replaced? If different, you may also need the ECM. If the same engine then check the Crankshaft Position Sensor or if applicable check also the Camshaft Position Sensor. If they are not giving out signal then there won't be any spark and the car won't start.
GnatGoSplat
If there's no power getting to the injectors, check fuses labeled INJ in the underhood electrical center.

MommyTaz022200
The engine is the same one I took out, just with everything replaced and the pistons bored out .50 mm bigger. It does try to start. The starter turns, and the engine cranks. It just won't catch. My husband thinks maybe the timing, since it was really hard to see the marks, but on my old car (85 Cavalier) when the chain snapped there wasn't spark but I still got gas. The INJ fuse is good. We pulled it at first when I cranked it till oil pressure registered. I didn't want to end up flooding the car while getting oil pressure. We put it back in when the pressure was there. Dustin, if you want to see if you can figure it out. My address is 2427 Basten St. Basten is the street Danz School is on. My house is a few blocks down from the school to the east. It's a green and dark brown duplex on the corner where Danz ends and meets Clemant St. The driveway is on the side. There will be either a blue Dodge Shadow or a Black Ford Escort with a Taz visor on it. My husband will be here til 3:30. Then he has a class and goes to work. I will be here til noon, then back at about 3:00.
GrandPrix34
check the timing belt by removing the timing inspectino over... my car died the other day, then the engine would crank over like it wanted to start but as it tunrs out it was nothing fuel related but in fact it was the timing belt gone to hell... check this thread out... http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7041
MommyTaz022200
The timing belt is brand new, along with the tensioners, and the timing chain and tensioner as well. The fuel pump is working, it makes the humming noises when a jumper wire is hooked to the test plug and the battery. For some reason the fuel will not go through the injectors? (There's gas in the fuel rod, but nothing is spraying in the cylinders. I know this because we took a spark plug out and stuck a finger in the cylinder while cranking.) We also put the plug on the plug wire and held it agenst the block, then cranked. There is no spark either. I don't know how to test the crank sensor, so I'm not sure if that's the problem. I did clean the fuel injectors by spraying Simple Green on a paper towel and wiping the injectors of dirt. I don't see how that could do any damage to them. I'm beyond pisted right now. I paid over $1,000 for a car I drove for a week, and now spent over $2,000 rebuilding the engine and I still don't have a fuckin car to drive. With no car I am missing my classes at school. I have over $10,000 invested in that and about $8,000 in student loans out. I live over 10 miles away from school, so walking there is not an option. I am completely broke, because I spent all of my money on rebuilding the engine. I am begenning to hate my car.
Slade901
I don't know how to test the crank sensor, so I'm not sure if that's the problem. Follow this guide for the Crankshaft Position Sensor testing. http://chiltondiy.com/Tour/EgRepair.html BTW, make sure the wiring on the Crankshaft Position Sensor is not loose or touching the engine block(grounding). MommyTaz022200
Well we got half the problem fixed and think we know what the other half of the problem is. My husband had the crank position plug pluged into the tranny and the tranny pluged into the sensor. IT'S GETTING GAS AND SPARK NOW!!!! Still won't start, but we think the cam timing is off. My paint marks were still visiable when we took them off, and I told my husband to make marks in the metal where the paint is. Well he forgot to do that, and when we got the heads back from the machine shop the paint was gone. So he put them on where he thought they should be. Dustin- is your engine the same? If so can I peek at your cam gears thru your belt view hole and match mine up? There are different symbols on the gears so I can (hopefully) find the right position to set it from them. Maybe it will be easy to fix (crossed fingers), and all I will need to do is look at your car and match mine up.
Aaron
that is y when we pull mine off, we are gonna saw a small mark into them. i want my timing to be exactly where it is now, cuz i got some 14.5s to run. not like it will ever happen or anything, but its fun to think about..... MommyTaz022200
ok, why don't you stay at home and get that shoulder to heal up then. I'm almost 100% positive it's the timing. It tries to start but just won't catch. I really appriciate your willingness to help me out, and do hope your bone heal fast. I'm searching the net to see if I can find any pictures of the cam's postiton for the right timing. When we talked to the machine shop before bringing the engine in they told us not to remove the cams because the gears do not have any special fit to the cams, but have to be on the exact way they come off, and they would take care of making sure that happened. So at least it's not the gears being off on the cams themselves. If all else fails I'll just have to find a 93 with a 3.4 for sale at a dealer and test drive it hope to peek.
