MOTORHEAD
the ingition module with 3 pack coils on top of it. i jus hate doing module/coils replacement and hate to hide coils.. i ve seen some picture that got module coils on the top of engine, right behind the power steering between end of hood.. i like that top part, its easier to replace coils in future, and changing module or wiring w.e u do. http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb266/mrl390/100_0124.jpg http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb266/mrl390/100_0125.jpg anyone knows this design? Crazy K
yes. that is a freaking rare rare rare design. It is as freaking rare as 1996 and 1997 GM cars equipped with the 3.4. Only the General himself put that on his cars. Whenever he had to will or way to make a car with a 3.4 in 96 or 97, he had to good fortune of including a mount on that engine for the coils. Now here is the bad news. I assume you are working on a 92 Z34 or something to that effect? the MAP sensor is in the way. you won't be able to utilize that mount. But don't fear, I've seen other relocations of coil packs. one had it on the passenger side struts brace, and one had it hanging on the front of the radiator support. BTW... changing removing coil packs from the motor is really not all that hard. you just need to know what you are doing. you don;t have to chase the hidden nuts, you can simply pull the 5.5mm(3/16"?) bolts to remove the coil. good tip: find any 94+3100 or 3400 engine, and you can grab the aluminum mounting plate from it's coils and ICM and use it as a custom plate to mount your coils with some custom work. MOTORHEAD
yeah thats what i thought about MAP sensor. jus that i hate doing that job going under car or try from the top to remove the coils.. i knew someone who actually had to remove the starter in order to get the coils n module off haha.. but yeah Crazy K, thanks for the tips. but how can we actually change the umm module wiring harness? have to add extendsion wire something to have it custom and able to make it longer to other side of engine u kno what i mean. im waiting on accdelco module to arrive it took me 3 weeks! MOTORHEAD
and yeah its 1992 Z34 with 94/95 engine swap
Crazy K
you may have to extend them. I may consider a coil relocation on one of mine sometime, as it would be clear of the heat of the manifold. But they would have to look good. Removing and installing them has never been an issue for me.
