Is this a 'dead' analog onstar unit? 2 vids

No, analog units are dead.

What do you mean? They don't operate at ALL? This thing won't connect to anything. Do I have to have an actual service plan in place before it'll connect to obtain 'air time' or whatever it needs?

All analog-based OnStar systems were disconnected in January of '08, because it was the end of support for analog cell phone carriers. You can take it to a dealer and they will replace it with a digital OnStar system... for a fee.

Yeah I knew analog units were dead. I guess I wasn't at all clear on it now that I read back through it. I was wondering if I have an analog system. I read somewhere that late model '02s may have a digital unit, or were replaced with digital units at stealerships. But I've also read that the digital systems didn't start until 04+, so I was just curious if anyone could tell by the way it tries to connect in the videos.

The tone you hear when it tries to connect indicates that there isn't a signal, so it's probably an analog system. Also, if you have a cell phone antenna sticking out of your rear window, it's most likely analog.
