Pressure test- Engine Removed

Does anyone know of a way to pressure test an engine when it is removed from the car? My car blew the head gasket and i took the engine out with the intention of dropping a new one in; however i have also been thinking about just replacing the head gaskets as the engine still ran good until it blew coolant into the oil. I dont want to do all the work of putting the engine back in to find out it wasnt the head gaskets but a cracked head or a cracked block.

Thanks,

well... you would get a cold reading.... but a cold reading could mean a false low reading as the lifters would not be "inflated" with oil as they would be on a recently run engine.

basically pull the plugs and mount he starter and crank it with a direct line to a battery...

are you trying to pre-tear down inspect, or have you already reassembled the engine?

if you have not torn it down, I would do so, and see what you may find...

No i have not tore it down. What should i look for when i tear it down.

basically i want to know if its worth replacing the head gaskets or if its just going to leak again or if the head are cracked or the blocks cracked. Didnt want to do all the work of tearing it down fixing it up to have the same problem again. I did have a spark plug fly out of the head that i had to heli coil.

Well pulled the engine apart today and found out what went wrong. The heater hose rusted out which was the source of the original coolant leak. Then the car overheated and sheared a head bolt causing the coolant to look into the oil. It sucks, guess i should have pulled over and parked it maybe save it. Oh well lesson learned just have to wait for my dad to find me a new engine now.
