This is to post my experience with these rotors so far. I have them on my 2005 Bonneville GXP with 13" front brakes. I push these brakes to the limit daily, as I drive to enjoy the car, not to baby it.

This is what my $50 ceramic pads look like after 16,000 miles.

If anyone has had bad experiences with Drilled/Slotted R1 concepts rotors eating away pads, you need to get firmer pads. I would advise premium ceramic pads, or ultra premium/high performance pads such as Bendix CT-3 or Akebono Pro-ACT pads.

so long as the vents don't have any orientation, no.

take a look at a vented rotor. you'll see ridges inside that rotor. usually they're perpendicular to the axle. other times they're angled to assist cooling. if they're perpendicular, it really doesn't matter which way you install them.

Posted

okay what if they are not perpendicular?

I don't remember exactly how they go if they're not. Generally rotors that don't have perpendicular vents will be quite expensive and will come with directions as to which rotor goes on which side.

so the ones in the pic are perpendicular? now i have to go home and check to see how mine are cause i have place opposite as the ones in the pics.

Yep, see those ridges? When you look into the rotor laterally.

Here's what I'm talking about:

With the upper two, the location of the rotor won't matter. With the bottom one, it will matter. You see what I mean?

nevermind.

Friction Master ceramics on the bonneville and akebono pro-act ultra premium ceramics on the regal. they're both pretty stiff pads. stay away from pads like the autozone duralast c-max ceramics. they're very soft and will wear out in no time.

I did in 11k miles.

Andrei, what would you recommend for me/my car? I also am pretty brake heavy. Probably not quite as much as you, but I do like my quick stops!

Akebono Pro-ACT. They're awesome pads.

AKEBONO Part # ACT1075 More Info {ProACT Ultra Premium Ceramic Pad}

GTP; Ceramic; OE Ceramic; Premium Stainless Steel Hardware Included; Front

$65.99 from Rockauto.com. Well worth every dime.

I've become a huge fan of these brakes. Very impressed. Either that or the Bendix CT-3's, which are $5 cheaper. Those had a tendency to smoke up on hard braking though, and became extremely brittle nearing the end of their life. Maybe I shouldn't have cooked them as much as I did, but in either case, the Akebonos have held up much better. I haven't had them smoke up on me yet.

The Duralast C-Max pads would smoke up every damn time I stopped hard from 45-0. It was disgusting.

what kind of ceramics do you have exactly?

I can't remember exactly..I think Wagner ceramics from Advance Auto

Posted

that might be your problem. I remember hearing that those were pretty soft, and cheap. slotted rotors will eat up soft pads like crazy.

Meh, oh well. I'm going back to blank rotors anyway.

Why?

All 4 sides need to be done again, and I'm doing the 12" upgrade. So I'm just saying enough! haha

How about rotors? Thank you BTW

well given the title of this thread, I'd definitely say that R1 concepts makes the best street performance rotors.
